Can someone discerning the priesthood date?

Full Question

My cousin wanted to know if a guy who is discerning to become a priest can have a girlfriend or date? Just asking. Thanks for any info you can give me.

Answer

Yes, if he wishes to do so he may certainly date while in the discernment process. Dating may even help him to discern whether he is being called to marriage instead of the priesthood, and it may help him to build healthy chaste friendships with women (something that is important for priests to have). However, he should not be invited and/or pressured to date by someone else (who should respect his possible call to celibate chastity); and he should stop dating once he has committed himself to applying for and training for the priesthood.

If the Priest decides he wants to obtain a Higher calling he must take charge of his own life to do so. Then the ordained priest remains a priest of carnal knowledge. To return home with honor he must know the laws of concercration and to offer it up thru the Virgin Mary to her son Jesus Christ, and then to the Father in Heaven.
