Colombian, Venezuelan bishops appeal for dialogue

Denouncing the organized crime, human trafficking, and drug trade taking place on the Colombia-Venezuelan border, the bishops of the two nations appealed for dialogue between the nations’ two presidents amid an escalating political crisis.

Venezuela’s socialist president claimed that Colombian paramilitary forces attacked Venezuelan troops—a claim The Washington Post described as “ludicrous.”

As the Venezuelan government expelled Colombian migrants from the border area, the bishops of both nations warned against “xenophobic behavior.”
