Did Jesus Pray Futilely?

Full Question

If God forgives only the repentant, why did Jesus ask the Father to forgive those who crucified him?

It is only the repentant who want to be forgiven. Jesus asked the Father to forgive those who were persecuting Him because they did not know what they were really doing. They did not know that they were putting the Son of God to death. God always wants to show us his mercy. It is we who so often fail to respond.

If Jesus is Yahweh, why is he praying to himself?
The evil Catholic god, Yahweh-Jesus, apparently sends billions of people to Hell, including those who commit the grievous sin of dying before being baptized. Certainly it could be said that not a single one of these persons could be said to know what they were doing, given that they have absolutely no objective evidence for any gods or afterlives. Now if you had that evidence and you denied it, then perhaps there would be some minimal justification for some proportionate punishment – but of course to punish a mere human who lives but a handful of decades for million and billions and trillions of years of agonizing torture and torment, is about as cruel, vicious, demented and evil as anyone could possibly imagine. Either the Catholic god or the church who invented him, has to be really evil.
Can someone explain to me how a soul feels pain, given that it’s immaterial? I guess Catholicism says we get another body so it can burn forever and ever, but bodies are material and material things need space, and that means Hell has to be a place – so where is it? Until the middle ages, they thought the end of the universe was the firmament above the earth. Heaven and Hell were somewhere in the firmament, i.e in outer space. Stars were holes poked in the firmament where God’s glory shone through. By the middle ages they knew that was nonsense, so they moved Hell underground to the center of the earth, but I don’t think the church supports that idea anymore. Does anyone know where Hell is these days? And which one – there are four: Sheol, Gehenna, Hades and Tartarus were the original words translated to the pagan word “Hell” but none of them means “Hell” as we think of it.
It doesn’t really matter why Jesus is praying to himself – his foundation is gone. We know beyond reasonable doubt that there was no six day creation, no two-person DNA bottleneck, no global flood, no mass exodus from Egypt and no conquest of Canaan by Israelites – the entire foundation for the Abrahamic gods has washed out to sea.
