Full Question

My mom told us that she would like to go on some sort of trip over the Easter holiday to see relatives. I was planning to spend these days in prayer, spiritual reading, and with family. What should be the proper plan of action?

Answer

Our blessed Lord suffered and died on Good Friday. He spent that day on our behalf. The least we can do is spend it on his. Tell your mother to choose some other weekend. This one is taken.

Advice from someone who has apparently never had children. Terrible advice. He doesn’t even ask how old the child is. He doesn’t ask whether the parent wants to celebrate Easter with other family members. He doesn’t suggest the child pray in the car or airplane. He tells the child to talk back to and disrespect their parent. Bad advice from someone who doesn’t have to actually be a parent. I would not permit my child to have any future contact with this clergyman unless I was there to set him straight, after I reminded the child that I was the parent, and explained why we were going to do it my way. I would remind the child that he or she does not give the orders in this house, and neither does a faceless clergyman in a blog who clearly hasn’t a clue about being a parent.
