Prominent Brazilian Franciscan Priest murdered in his Car

Father Antônio Moser, 75, who was a member of the 2015 synod of bishops on the family was shot dead in his car along Washington Luiz highway of Duque de Caxias in Brazil.

He was shot by robbers who approached his car on a motor-bike. He noticed them and tried to speed away but they chased him and fired at him in the Car.

Father Antônio Moser was a former professor of moral and ethical theology at the Franciscan Theological Institute in Petropolis, Brazil and head of a leading Catholic publishing house. He severed as a collaborator of the Special Secretary in the 2015 synod of bishops on the family.

The statement sent to Fides by the Episcopal Conference of Brazil (CNBB), signed by the auxiliary Bishop of Brasilia and the Secretary General of the CNBB, His Exc. Mgr. Leonardo Steiner, reads that “Friar Antônio Moser’s life was rich and fruitful”.
