Vatileak II: Investigation of the Journalists involved

Father Federico Lombardi, the director of the Vatican press office, have confirmed the authors of the book revealing contents of the Vatican’s leaked confidential data; Gianluigi Nuzzi and Emiliano Fittipaldi are both under serious investigation. Father Federico in his statement said that “it now clear what charges, if any, could be brought by the Vatican prosecutors against the two writers.

Meanwhile Vatican officials have defended themselves against new stories, based on the two books, alleging corruption and favoritism in financial dealings. The Congregation for Evangelization, for example, issued a strong statement denying charges that appeared in the daily Corriere dela Sera, claiming that real-estate properties owned by the dicasteries were rented out to favored individuals at below-market rates.

Rumors have been flaring that other Vatican’s officials including few Cardinals have a hand in the Vatileak II. But Fr. Federico have confirmed it it that there are no such case yet that proves the involvement of another official, cardinals especially. “Though officials remain under investigation, as Vatican prosecutors seek a clear and detailed understanding of how documents leaked”
