Where did people who died before Christ go?

Full Question

Where did people who died before Christ go?

Answer

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, before the Resurrection, Abraham, Noah, Moses, Adam and Eve, and all the righteous were in the Limbo of the Fathers (limbus patrum) where they remained until “in his human soul united to his divine person, the dead Christ went down to the realm of the dead. He opened heaven’s gates for the just who had gone before him” (CCC 637).

Today a great silence reigns on earth, a great silence and a great stillness. A great silence because the King is asleep. The earth trembled and is still because God has fallen asleep in the flesh and he has raised up all who have slept ever since the world began. . . . He has gone to search for Adam, our first father, as for a lost sheep. Greatly desiring to visit those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, he has gone to free from sorrow Adam in his bonds and Eve, captive with him—he who is both their God and the son of Eve. . . ."I am your God, who for your sake have become your son. . . I order you, O sleeper, to awake. I did not create you to be a prisoner in hell. Rise from the dead, for I am the life of the dead." (CCC 635)

When we die we don’t go anywhere, we are asleep in the grave. Our breath of life goes back to God. When we die we know longer have a soul. In order to have a soul you need the breath of life and the dust of the ground. We don’t go to heaven and play golf.

    1. AngelofGod Reply

No. Not to play golf. To be reunited with God who blessed us with a soul which is part of Him. To live eternally glorifying God with the angels and saints. And hopefully play basketball because I really can’t stand golf. The balls too small 🙂

Susan….from one who lives in Heaven: “We go to Heaven in full conscience: that which we have now. At the moment of death, we are conscience of the separation of the body and soul. It is false to teach people that we are born ,amy times and that we pass to different bodies. One is born only once. The body, drawn from the earth decomposes after death. IIt never comes back to life again. Man receives a transfigured body.”- The Gospa of Medjugorje. (Who once was Mary..the Mother of Jesus.) 7-24-82.

When we die our spirit goes back to God and our body to the grave.. The wicked will be in the grave till the great white throne judgement… To be absent from the body is to be present with the lord.. WE close our eyes here and open them there.. At the rapture our spirits go back to our bodies and we rise with our new bodies to be with the lord. If we go in the Rapture we have a changed body and we go to be with Christ forever and never go to a grave otherwise our spirits are in heaven after we die till the rapture. Those that are wicked and have not served God in spirit and in truth will go to the grave and sleep there till Judgement day Which is After the thousand year millennial Reign with Christ andcalled the Great White Throne Judgement .The saints after the anti-christ is destroyed and Israel has been saved from the attackers from the north will rule and reigh with Christ during that 1000 yrs. mellennial reign. Then the Great white throne judgement where the wicked will be judged and truned into hell where satan will be cast also. The earth will be burned over with fire and the New Jerusalem will come down from Heaven and set up on the earth. We will go forth living our lives without sin , pain, no death, and King Jesus will rule over the earth for ever more..

When you die your physical body stays here on earth until the second coming of Christ, at which time your body and soul will be joined back together again, if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your savior and have repented of your sins, your spirit has been in heaven with God and Jesus Christ, but if you rejected Jesus Christ here on earth then your soul as been in hell, and at this time your your complete body will be exiled in the lake of fire with Satan and all his angels for all of eternity.

No, the flesh body goes to the dust hwere it casme from, never to be raised again. Our spirit goes to God Who gave it, then He will make a distinction on where you go to await the judgement. What kind of bodies do you suppose the saints that are ALREADY in heaven have? No flesh enters heaven.

The body takes it’s last breath as the soul leaves the body…..your soul does not die……is the soul then born into a new body, without memories of the last life, when God decides the necessity ? ……. If so why? ……Is it to purify your soul time and time again until God decides you are worthy to take your place in Heaven?……Is Earth our Hell to teach us lessons and to eventually become worthy of Heaven?…. Do we wait in limbo or in line for our return to a body ( experiencing a new life) I do not know the answers but I do know Jesus Christ died for our sin’s….Whatever happens after the body takes it’s last breath and the soul moves on is entirely up to God’s Will……

The biblical teaching is that all people went to sheol [hades] (Lk. 16:19-31). This story of two men who lived and died during the same time frame cannot be a parable because the Lord Jesus NEVER used proper names such as Lazarus, Abraham, and Moses in parables. Hades [sheol] consists of two section separated by a great, impassable gulf. One side is called ‘Torments,’ and the other side is called ‘Paradise.’ Those who were destined for Heaven like Noah, Moses, David, and Daniel could not go to Heaven upon their physical death [separation] because their sins were only COVERED by their animal sacrifices (Heb.10:4). Thus, hades [sheol] is and was a holding tank for all who physically died. The sacrifice of the Lord Jesus and His shed blood for all who will believe by faith alone in His finished work (Heb. 10:10, 12, 14, 17-19) REMOVED the sins of those in the Paradise side of hades [sheol]. This enabled the Lord Jesus to retrieve the saved Old Testament saints from the Paradise section and take them to Heaven after He had presented Himself to God, the Father (Lk. 23:39-43; Jn. 20:16-17). The Paradise section of hades [sheol] is now empty because all who die in Christ go to Heaven immediately (2 Cor. 5:8). Unfortunately, the Torments section continues to have lost souls added to its population each second.

Whatever happened to becoming part of the mystical body of Christ as taught by the Catholic Church? All this other talk seems to contradict that teaching and maybe we should look the writings of Paul, since that is from where the primary dogma of the Church comes.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

2Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Old and New testament seem to say we go to God our Lord. Then where does He place our spirit?
