3 Powerful sacramentals to have in your car

Add these powerful Sacramentlas in your car, and use them to invoke God’s protection while on the road. It can be powerful to use these items not only for spiritual safety but to help ease your mind. The Catholic church encourages the use of sacramentals in virtually all aspects of our lives. These are religious items blessed by a priest to call down God’s grace. They are set up by the Church to bring us closer to God and are focused on blessing every part of our lives.

Sacramentals don’t guarantee accident-free driving all the time, but we have seen many miracles arising from the proper use of these powerful instruments. We recommend picking from one of these for your car.

The first thing to consider is car blessing. This is typically done by a priest or deacon and calls down God’s special care over your care. This can be done once or anytime you are embarking on a major journey. This is the powerful prayer used on this occasion:

Lord God, be well disposed to our prayers, and bless + this vehicle with your holy hand. Appoint your holy angels as an escort over it, who will always shield its passengers and keep them safe from accidents. And as once by your deacon, Philip, you bestowed faith and grace upon the Ethiopian seated in his carriage and reading Holy Writ, so also now show the way of salvation to your servants, in order that, strengthened by your grace and ever intent upon good works, they may attain, after all the successes and failures of this life, the certain happiness of everlasting life; through Christ our Lord. All: Amen.

Brown Scapular

This powerful sacramental comes with many promises for those who faithfully wear it. It is usually worn underneath clothing. It can also be used in a car, so no matter who is driving, this sacramental can be used to call on Our Lady’s special protection. This is what St John Paul II said about the power of the Brown Scapular:

Therefore two truths are evoked by the sign of the Scapular: on the one hand, the constant protection of the Blessed Virgin, not only on life’s journey, but also at the moment of passing into the fullness of eternal glory; on the other, the awareness that devotion to her cannot be limited to prayers and tributes in her honor on certain occasions, but must become a “habit,” that is, a permanent orientation of one’s own Christian conduct, woven of prayer and interior life, through frequent reception of the sacraments and the concrete practice of the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.

St. Christopher medal

Another really powerful sacramental is the St Christoper medal. It is in fact one of the common ones used in cars by Catholics. This is usually seen either as a visor clip or dashboard statue. St Christopher is known as the patron of travelers and he is usually invoked when traveling. Where is the prayer said before a journey, called “Motorist’s Prayer”:

Grant me, O Lord, a steady hand and watchful eye, That no one shall be hurt as I pass by. You gave life, I pray no act of mine may take away or mar that gift of thine. Shelter those, dear Lord, who bear my company, from the evils of fire and all calamity. Teach me to use my car for others’ need, Nor miss through love of undue speed The beauty of the world; that thus I may with joy and courtesy go on my way. St. Christopher, holy patron of travelers, please protect me and lead me safely to my destiny. Amen.

The Rosary

This is another popular one and also a powerful way to invite the protection of Our Lady. The Rosary brings to mind all the mysteries we meditate on when we pray. Personally, anytime I look at the Rosary in my own car, I focus on one of the mysteries and let it guide me on a brief meditation while driving. It basically is holding it loosely so as not to get distracted while at the same time lifting the heart to God and Our Lady. Her powerful protection quiets the anxiety of the heart because she is a most dependable Mother.
