In the wake of yet another mass shooting on Wednesday in San Bernardino California, that left at least 14 people dead and more than a dozen wounded, Bishop of the Diocese of San Bernardino, Most Reverend Gerald R. Barnes issued a statement on Wednesday afternoon “requesting prayers for all of the victims of this dreadful incident and their families.”
Bishop Barnes said, “Today, we have experienced another tragic act of public violence, this time in our own Diocese of San Bernardino…. For those who lost their lives, we pray for their eternal rest and God’s strength to their loved ones left behind; for those who are wounded, we pray for their health and healing. Let us also ask God to protect the brave men and women in law enforcement who are pursuing the suspects in this case.”
“Our community of San Bernardino has faced great challenges through the years. Let us come together now in unity to bring light to the darkness of this day.” He added.
At least one gunman opened fire on a banquet at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, a facility for people with developmental disabilities, leaving at least 14 persons dead and more than 17 injured in the mass shooting. It was the nation’s deadliest mass shooting since the attack at a school in Newtown, Connecticut, three years ago that left 26 children and adults dead.
Local police reports that they are searching for a black Yukon SUV that drove away from the shooting. FBI and ATF teams are on the scene.
In his statement, Bishop Barnes also offered prayers for the service men and women on the crime scene. “Let us also ask God to protect the brave men and women in law enforcement who are pursuing the suspects in this case.” He concluded.
