The kidnappers have said they would be willing to release the priest in exchange for a ransom

Mexico’s Catholic council of bishops says a priest has been kidnapped in the northern Gulf coast city of Tampico.
The council identified the priest as Fr Oscar Lopez Navarro.
Bishop José Luis Dibildox of Tampico said Fr Lopez Navarro was abducted late Tuesday night outside his residence by people who had been following him.
He said the kidnappers had indicated they would negotiate for his release, apparently in exchange for a ransom.
On Monday, a priest was shot dead in the Pacific coast state of Nayarit. In 2016, two priests were murdered in Veracruz state, and another priest was killed in the western state of Michoacan.
An estimated 32 priests have been killed in Mexico since 2006.
