The presidents of the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) and the Conference of European Churches (CEC) met on September 18 to discuss Europe’s migrant crisis.
COMECE, currently led by Cardinal Reinhard Marx of Munich, is composed of bishops from the 27 EU nations; the CEC, founded in 1959, is Europe’s leading Protestant and Orthodox ecumenical association.
“Those who enter Europe, must not be afraid to drown or suffocate,” said Cardinal Marx. “And they must get a fair asylum process. These are minimum standards which must apply throughout Europe.”
