Is it a sin for a married woman to flirt?

Full Question

I have a married friend who flirts. She sees nothing wrong with it, and says it doesn’t lead to anything. I believe it’s a sin. Is it?

It’s not a sin if the individuals involved are not married. It’s also not a sin if it is between people who are married to each other. But it is a sin if it is between a married person and someone other than one’s spouse, as in the case you mention. Your friend needs to get her act together. She owes such attention to her husband exclusively.

Best not to. Too risky. If someone flirts with her, take it as a compliment and leave it alone!

  • Heather,OPB says:

it is written, “But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman (man) lustfully has already committed adultery with her (him) in his heart.” Matthew 5:28

  • Andrew says:

I have found most of the answers to these questions are from the dark ages. There is nothing wrong with a married woman flirting. Youare assuming there is a sexual attraction or connection. Many times they are only being friendly!

  • Stuart says:

Andrew, The dark ages, really? God is the same yesterday, today and for eternity. Jesus was explicit enough about this as Heather pointed out.
