Pope Francis met on September 17 with Prime Minister Xavier Bettel of Luxembourg, for conversations that focused on bilateral relations, religious freedom, and Church-state interactions.
As the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg takes it turn in the presidency of the European Union, the prime minister also spoke with the Pope– and with Archbishop Richard Gallagher, the Secretary for Relations with States– about European affairs. The discussion of that subject centered on the recent wave of refugees.
