Polygamy becoming less prevalent, says Ugandan prelate

The president of the Uganda Episcopal Conference said that polygamy is becoming less prevalent in Africa because of the expense involved.
“With education and with economic challenges, polygamy in Africa is self-defeating and becoming less of a challenge,” Archbishop John Baptist Odama of Gulu told Vatican Radio.
The prelate, who is attending the World Meeting of Families and will participate in next month’s Synod of Bishops on the family, said that “the meeting in Philadelphia and the keynote address by Cardinal [Robert] Sarah are giving a sense of direction to many because nowadays people in the world are confused about the concept of family today.”
