Pope Francis and Donald Trump nominated for the Nobel peace prize for 2016

Among the 376 nominations for this year’s Nobel peace prize are Pope Francis and U.S. Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump. German Chancellor, Angela Merkel has also been nominated for the award.
Pope Francis who is known for his humility and significant contributions in honoring women’s role in society was nominated for last year’s prize but it went to four Tunisian groups that rescued the county’s transition to democracy.
Speaking about the 376 increase in nominations this year against 278 nominations in 2014
The head of the Nobel Institute, Olav Njolstad said the record number of nominations reflected world events.
“We live in a world where there are a lot of conflicts and where there are also a certain number of processes that are heading in a more positive direction.”
“Clearly, this has inspired a lot of people to exercise their right to nominate someone,” he added.
The winner of the prestigious prize will be announced in October
