Pope urges synod participants to show ‘apostolic courage and evangelical humility’

Pope Francis has spoken at the opening of the Synod of Bishops on the Family
Pope Francis has called participants in the Synod of Bishops on the Family to show “apostolic courage and evangelical humility.”
The Pope was speaking at the opening session of the synod in the Synod Hall at the Vatican this morning.
According to Catholic News Service, he said that synod participants must “learn to be open to the Holy Spirit” and that the synod is “not a parliament; no negotiating, lobbying or compromising.”
“The Church isn’t a museum but a living wellspring of God’s word,” Francis added.
“The synod is a safe space to listen to Holy Spirit and God who always surprises us.”
The synod is “a journey we make together with the spirit of collegiality,” he said, according to the Holy See Press Office.
