Prayer for the Evening
In Christ is the source of life;
in his light, we see light:
let us give thanks and praise.
Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!
Hymn
A noble son of noble race
And born of house enriched with fame,
The youthful Thomas, led by grace,
Within the Preachers’ Order came.
Applaud, O Mother Church, and praise
The happy end that Thomas made:
By merit of Life’s word and ways
He reached the joys that never fade.
Then be to Father and to Son
And Holy Spirit praise confessed;
May we through merit Thomas won
Be joined in heaven with the blest.
Canticle. Sirach 14:20-21, 24-27; 15:4-6
Whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God. (Jn 3:21)
Saint Thomas lived in the truth of Christ and so came to know the incomparable light of God’s revelation. That was his unfailing joy.
Happy the man who meditates on wisdom,
and reflects on knowledge;
Who ponders her ways in his heart,
and understands her paths;
Who encamps near her house,
and fastens his tent pegs next to her walls;
Who pitches his tent beside her,
and lives as her welcome neighbor;
Who builds his nest in her leafage,
and lodges in her branches;
Who takes shelter with her from the heat,
and dwells in her home.
He will lean upon her and not fall,
he will trust in her and not be put to shame.
She will exalt him above his fellows;
in the assembly she will make him eloquent.
Joy and gladness he will find,
an everlasting name inherit.
Glory to the Father….
Word of God. Wisdom 6:22
Now what Wisdom is, and how she came to be, I shall relate;/ and I shall hide no secrets from you,/ But from the very beginning I shall search out/ and bring to light knowledge of her,/ nor shall I diverge from the truth.
Light produces every kind of goodness
and righteousness and truth. (Eph 5:9)
Canticle of Mary
God has made known to us the mystery of his will in accord with his favor that he set forth in Christ. (cf. Eph 1:9)
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.
Glory to the Father…
Intercessions
Jesus Christ is the fountain of all truth. Let us pray to him, saying:
R/Keep on loving those who know you!
You are the center of our life:
– surround us and fill us with your redeeming grace. R/
You are the reason for our being:
– enlighten our minds and direct our wills to live according to your purposes. R/
You are the goal of our life’s journey:
– take into your light all those who have gone before us into death’s darkness. R/
Personal intentions
Our Father….
May Christ our light give us refuge in the shelter of his wings. Amen. (cf. Ps 36:8)
Marian Antiphon
Blessed Mother of God, Mary, perpetual Virgin,
temple of the Lord, shrine of the Holy Spirit,
you alone without compare were pleasing
to the Lord Jesus Christ;
pray for the people, intervene for the clergy;
intercede for devout women.
Alma Redemptoris Mater
Alma Redemptoris Mater, quae pervia caeli
porta manes, et stella maris, succurre cadenti,
surgere qui curat, populo: tu quae genuisti,
natura mirante, tuum sanctum Genitorem,
Virgo prius ac posterius, Gabrielis ab ore
sumens illud Ave, peccatorum miserere.
Loving mother of the Redeemer,
gate of heaven, star of the sea,
assist your people who have fallen yet strive to rise again.
To the wonderment of nature you bore your Creator,
yet remained a virgin after as before.
You who received Gabriel’s joyful greeting,
have pity on us, poor sinners.
V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia ergo, advocata nostra,
illos tuos misericordes oculos
ad nos converte.
Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.
Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,
our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To you do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve.
To you do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, O most gracious advocate,
your eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile
show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
