Prayer for the Evening (Friday, November 26)

Prayer for the Evening

Christ is the true Lamb who takes away

the sins of the world: come, let us adore!

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

Hymn

O Christ our King, supreme in power,

The Father’s glory and delight

Our fallen nature you restored,

By dying you defeated death.

You bore our sorrows and our griefs,

And sought a sterner conflict yet,

By death you crushed the serpent’s head

Who conquered us and caused our death.

In triumph risen from the tomb

You bring your people back to life

Through your great Paschal Mystery,

We who were dead and lost by sin.

Your servants who have left this world

With soul from body now set free,

Call swiftly to our Father’s home

To praise you for eternity.

Psalm 68:4-7b, 20-21, 36b

The hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs will hear the voice of the Son of God and will come out, those who have done good deeds to the resurrection of life, but those who have done wicked deeds to the resurrection of condemnation. (cf. Jn 5:28-29)

On the last day, when time is no more, Jesus shall return as Judge and all will be made clear. Until that day comes, we wait in hope, working and praying for our salvation and that of our loved ones.

The just shall rejoice at the presence of God,

they shall exult and dance for joy.

O sing to the Lord, make music to his name;

make a highway for him who rides on the clouds.

Rejoice in the Lord, exult at his presence.

Father of the orphan, defender of the widow,

such is God in his holy place.

God gives the lonely a home to live in;

he leads the prisoners forth into freedom.

May the Lord be blessed day after day.

He bears our burdens, God our savior.

This God of ours is a God who saves.

The Lord our God holds the keys of death.

Blessed be God!

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. Romans 6:3-4

Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life.

He will destroy death forever./ The Lord God will
wipe away/ the tears from all faces. (Is 25:8)

Canticle of Mary

Why do you seek the living one among the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised. (Lk 24:5-6)

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:

the Almighty has done great things for me,

and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him

in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,

[he] has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,

and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,

and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel

for he has remembered his promise of mercy,

the promise he made to our fathers,

to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father…

Intercessions

We wait in hope for the resurrection of the dead. With joyful hearts, let us pray:

R/Your love, O Lord, is stronger than death!

Fix our hearts firmly on heaven,

– that we may live earthly lives full of hope. R/

Keep us mindful of our responsibility to intercede for our brothers and sisters in Christ,

– especially the holy souls in purgatory. R/

May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God,

– rest in peace. R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

May the angels lead us into paradise; may the martyrs come to welcome us and lead us into the holy city Jerusalem. Amen. (In Paradisum)

Rejoice, O Mother of God, O Virgin Immaculate;

[rejoice], you who received joy from an angel;

rejoice, you who bore the glory of the light everlasting;

[rejoice], O Mother, rejoice,

O holy Virgin Mother of God;

you alone a maiden Mother,

all creation praises you, the Mother of light;

may you be for us, we beseech you,

a perpetual intercessor.

Salve Regina

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia ergo, advocata nostra,

illos tuos misericordes oculos

ad nos converte.

Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,

nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this our exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Alma Redemptoris Mater

Alma Redemptoris Mater, quae pervia caeli

porta manes, et stella maris, succurre cadenti,

surgere qui curat, populo: tu quae genuisti,

natura mirante, tuum sanctum Genitorem,

Virgo prius ac posterius, Gabrielis ab ore

sumens illud Ave, peccatorum miserere.

Loving mother of the Redeemer

Loving mother of the Redeemer,

gate of heaven, star of the sea,

assist your people who have fallen yet strive

to rise again.

To the wonderment of nature you bore your Creator,

yet remained a virgin after as before.

You who received Gabriel’s joyful greeting,

have pity on us, poor sinners.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
