Prayer for the Evening
Vigil of the Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time
God is love! Come, let us adore!
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
is now, and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia!
Hymn
O God of love, grant us your peace,
Within each restless mind.
May all our inner turmoil cease,
God shows us how to find
Your quiet rest, your still, small voice,
Your light upon life’s way,
To walk with you our humble choice,
God give us the grace to pray.
O God of all, grant us your peace,
We share one human bond,
And so when others seek release,
God, help us to respond
To heal the sick, to seek the lost,
[T]o set the captive free,To serve and never count the cost;
May we live peacefully!
Psalm 16
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. (Mk 12:30)
Unless our love for one another is grounded in our love for God, it will not be truly supernatural. God’s self-giving and faithful love for us in Christ purify our hearts of self-concern and teach us how to love truly.
Preserve me, God, I take refuge in you.
I say to the Lord: “You are my God.
My happiness lies in you alone.”
He has put into my heart a marvelous love
for the faithful ones who dwell in his land.
Those who choose other gods increase their sorrows.
Never will I offer their offerings of blood.
Never will I take their name upon my lips.
O Lord, it is you who are my portion and cup;
it is you yourself who are my prize.
The lot marked out for me is my delight:
welcome indeed the heritage that falls to me!
I will bless the Lord who gives me counsel,
who even at night directs my heart.
I keep the Lord ever in my sight:
since he is at my right hand, I shall stand firm.
And so my heart rejoices, my soul is glad;
even my body shall rest in safety.
For you will not leave my soul among the dead,
nor let your beloved know decay.
You will show me the path of life,
the fullness of joy in your presence,
at your right-hand happiness forever.
Glory to the Father….
Word of God (Joshua 22:5)
Be very careful to observe the precept and law which Moses, the servant of the Lord, enjoined upon you: love the Lord, your God; follow him faithfully; keep his commandments; remain loyal to him, and serve him with your whole heart and soul.
In this way, we know that we love the children of God when we love God and obey his commandments. (1 Jn 5:2)
Canticle of Mary
Those who sincerely love God shall rejoice. (Tb 14:7)
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
[h]e has scattered the pride in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever.
Glory to the Father…

Marian Antiphon
Antiphon for the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, October 7
Devoutly let us celebrate today’s solemnity
of the Most Holy Rosary of Mary the Mother of God, that she may intercede for us
before our Lord Jesus Christ.
Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia ergo, advocata nostra,
illos tuos misericordes oculos
ad nos converte.
Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.
Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,
our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To you do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve.
To you do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, O most gracious advocate,
your eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile
show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
