PRAYER FOR THIS EVENING (FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 27)
Prayer for the Evening
Jesus Christ has opened the gates of heaven:
come, let us adore him!
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

The strife is o’er, the battle done;
Now is the Victor’s triumph won;
O let the song of praise be sung: R/

Death’s mightiest pow’rs have done their worst;
And Jesus has his foes dispersed;

He closed the yawning gates of hell;
The bars from heaven’s high portals fell;

Lord, by the stripes which wounded thee,
From death’s dread sting thy servants free,

CANTICLE (Isaiah 25:6-9)
Our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we also await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will change our lowly body to conform with his glorified body by the power that enables him also to bring all things into subjection to himself. (Phil 3:20-21)
The “faithful departed” are all who have left this earth in God’s friendship, who are being purified in the fires of purgatory so that they can enjoy his presence in heaven for ever. As we look in hope toward the promised rewards of heaven, we pray today for all our beloved dead.
On this mountain the Lord of hosts
will provide for all peoples
A feast of rich food and choice wines,
juicy, rich food and pure, choice wines.
On this mountain he will destroy
the veil that veils all peoples,
The web that is woven over all nations;
he will destroy death forever.
The Lord God will wipe away
the tears from all faces;
The reproach of his people he will remove
from the whole earth; for the Lord has spoken.
On that day it will be said:
“Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us!
This is the Lord for whom we looked;
let us rejoice and be glad that he has saved us!”

Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.
Remain faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. (Rv 2:10)
CANTICLE OF MARY
Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. (1 Jn 3:2)
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.

INTERCESSIONS
With trust in God’s promises, we ask mercy for ourselves and for the holy souls in purgatory:
R/Christ our life, hear our prayer.
Grant us the grace of perseverance in prayer and in virtue,
– that, in growing closer to you in this life, we may prepare for life eternal. R/
Through your sorrowful Passion and glorious Resurrection,
– rescue our souls and theirs from suffering hereafter. R/
May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God,
– rest in peace. R/
