PRAYER FOR THIS EVENING (THURSDAY, AUGUST 6)

Prayer for the Evening

Let us sing God’s praise and his power!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN

In days of old on Sinai

The Lord Almighty came

In majesty of terror,

In thundercloud and flame:

On Tabor, with the glory

Of sunniest light for vest,

The excellence of beauty

In Jesus was expressed.

All light created paled there,

And did him worship meet;

The sun itself adored him,

And bowed before his feet;

While Moses and Elijah,

Upon the holy mount,

The coeternal glory

Of Christ our God recount.

O holy, wondrous vision!

But what when, this life past,

The beauty of Mount Tabor

Shall end in heav’n at last?

But what when all the glory

Of uncreated light

Shall be the promised reward

Of them that win the fight?

PSALM 21:2-9, 14

I will sing to the Lord, for he is gloriously triumphant! (Ex 15:1)

On Tabor shone the light of glory that transformed the risen Christ, whose days will last from age to age, no matter how dark the world’s night.

O Lord, your strength gives joy to the king;

how your saving help makes him glad!

You have granted him his heart’s desire;

you have not refused the prayer of his lips.

You came to meet him with the blessings of success,

you have set on his head a crown of pure gold.

He asked you for life and this you have given,

days that will last from age to age.

Your saving help has given him glory.

You have laid upon him majesty and splendor,

you have granted your blessings to him for ever.

You have made him rejoice with the joy of your presence.

The king has put his trust in the Lord:

through the mercy of the Most High he shall stand firm.

His hand will seek and find all his foes,

his right hand find out those that hate him.

O Lord, arise in your strength;

we shall sing and praise your power.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (1 Timothy 3:16)

Undeniably great is the mystery of devotion,

Who was manifested in the flesh,/ vindicated in the spirit,/ seen by angels,/ proclaimed to the Gentiles,/ believed in throughout the world,/ taken up in glory.

Glory and honor and power to the Lord, our God!

(cf. Rv 4:11)

CANTICLE OF MARY

His splendor spreads like the light;/ rays shine forth from beside him,/ where his power is concealed. (Hb 3:4)

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:

the Almighty has done great things for me,

and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him

in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,

he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,

and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,

and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel

for he has remembered his promise of mercy,

the promise he made to our fathers,

to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father…

MARIAN ANTIPHON

Antiphon for the Solemnity

of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary,

August 15

Virgin most prudent, where do you go forth,

shining exceedingly as the dawn?

Daughter of Zion, you are all beautiful and gracious,

fair as the moon, bright as the sun.

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia ergo, advocata nostra,

illos tuos misericordes oculos

ad nos converte.

Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,

nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this our exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
