Prayer for the Evening
Come, let us seek the Lord while he may be found,/
and call him while he is near! (cf. Is 55:6)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

Receive, O Lord, in heaven above
Our prayers and supplications pure;
Give us a heart all full of love
And steady courage to endure.
Thy holy name our mouths confess,
Our tongues are harps to praise thy grace;
Forgive our sins and wickedness,
Who in this vigil seek thy face.
Let not our song become a sigh,
A wail of anguish and despair;
In loving-kindness, Lord most high,
Receive tonight our evening prayer.
O raise us in that day, that we
May sing, where all thy saints adore,

PSALM 27:1, 4-5, 6b-9a, 11a, 13-14
Jesus was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light. (cf. Mt 17:2)
For the Psalmist, God’s “face” was his mysterious presence in the luminous cloud that led the people through the desert and filled the meeting tent, the forerunner of the Temple. Jesus Christ is for us God’s human face, the visible sign of his presence and of his faithful, protective love.
The Lord is my light and my help;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
before whom shall I shrink?
There is one thing I ask of the Lord,
for this I long,
to live in the house of the Lord,
all the days of my life,
to savor the sweetness of the Lord,
to behold his temple.
For there he keeps me safe in his tent
in the day of evil.
He hides me in the shelter of his tent,
on a rock he sets me safe,
and I shall offer within his tent
a sacrifice of joy.
I will sing and make music for the Lord.
O Lord, hear my voice when I call;
have mercy and answer.
Of you my heart has spoken:
“Seek his face.”
It is your face, O Lord, that I seek;
hide not your face.
Instruct me, Lord, in your way;
on an even path lead me.
I am sure I shall see the Lord’s goodness
in the land of the living.
Hope in him, hold firm and take heart.

All of us, gazing with unveiled face on the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, as from the Lord who is the Spirit.
For God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to bring to light the knowledge of the glory of God on the face of [Jesus] Christ.
We seek your face, O Lord!

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

He has mercy on those who fear him

He has shown the strength of his arm,

The Lord is our light and our help. Whom shall we fear? Let us lay our concerns before him in faith.
