PRAYER FOR THIS MORNING (TUESDAY, JANUARY 26)

Saints Timothy and Titus

Prayer for the Morning

Jesus Christ is God’s light and our truth:

come, let us adore him!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN

Those called by Christ and by him sent

To preach and to proclaim

Made known to all the Kingdom come,

And now with Christ they reign.

Come, Christians, follow Christ this day

Take up your Cross and run,

And you shall win a shining crown

That shall outshine the sun.

PSALM 43:3-5

Do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord, nor of me, a prisoner for his sake; but bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes from God. (2 Tm 1:8)

Evangelization is not an easy task. With their mentor Saint Paul, Saints Timothy and Titus experienced rejection and discouragement but also joy in proclaiming the triumph of Christ dead and risen, and in building up the Church in his name.

O send forth your light and your truth;

let these be my guide.

Let them bring me to your holy mountain

to the place where you dwell.

And I will come to the altar of God,

the God of my joy.

My redeemer, I will thank you on the harp,

O God, my God.

Why are you cast down, my soul,

why groan within me?

Hope in God; I will praise him still,

my savior and my God.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (2 Timothy 1:9-13)

[God] saved us and called us to a holy life, not according to our works but according to his own design and the grace bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before time began, but now made manifest through the appearance of our savior Christ Jesus, who destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, for which I was appointed preacher and apostle and teacher. On this account I am suffering these things; but I am not ashamed, for I know him in whom I have believed and am confident that he is able to guard what has been entrusted to me until that day. Take as your norm the sound words that you heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than
his master nor any messenger greater than the one who sent him. (Jn 13:16)

Canticle of Zechariah

I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” “Here I am,” I said; “send me!” (Is 6:8)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior,

born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old

that he would save us from our enemies,

from the hands of all who hate us.

He promised to show mercy to our fathers

and to remember his holy covenant.

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:

to set us free from the hands of our enemies,

free to worship him without fear,

holy and righteous in his sight

all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet

of the Most High;

for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

to give his people knowledge of salvation

by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness

and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father…

Intercessions

Let us pray through the intercession of Saints Timothy and Titus:

R/Send forth your light and your truth!

You have called many to live and to preach the Good News of salvation:

– keep all your followers faithful to the message they have received from you. R/

You have called men and women from every walk of life to bear witness to you:

– sustain them in the midst of opposition and fill them with your joy. R/

You have chosen from among your followers bishops, priests, and deacons:

– fill them with zeal and eloquence in proclaiming your Word. R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

O God, you will the salvation of all peoples. Send dedicated disciples, zealous preachers, and selfless servants of charity into the world for our redemption, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
