PRAYER FOR THIS MORNING (WEDNESDAY, JULY 8)

Prayer for the Morning

Let us bless the Lord at all times,

God’s praise always on our lips!

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

HYMN

This day God sends me

Strength as my steersman,

Might to uphold me,

Wisdom as guide.

Your eyes are watchful,

Your ears are listening,

Your lips are speaking,

Friend at my side.

God’s way is my way,

God’s shield is round me,

God’s host defends me,

Saving from ill.

Angels of heaven,

Drive from me always

All that would harm me,

Stand by me still.

PSALM 34:2-5, 8-9

The angel of God, who had been leading Israel’s camp, now moved and went around behind them. (Ex 14:19)

The Psalmist refers here to the angel of the Lord who stood between the fleeing Israelites and their Egyptian pursuers during the exodus, and hid them from sight. God goes with us, guards us, and guides us today with the same protective love.

I will bless the Lord at all times,

his praise always on my lips;

in the Lord my soul shall make its boast.

The humble shall hear and be glad.

Glorify the Lord with me.

Together let us praise his name.

I sought the Lord and he answered me;

from all my terrors he set me free.

The angel of the Lord is encamped

around those who revere him, to rescue them.

Taste and see that the Lord is good.

He is happy who seeks refuge in him.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (Isaiah 30:20-21)

The Lord will give you the bread you need/ and the water for which you thirst./ No longer will your Teacher hide himself,/ but with your own eyes you shall see your Teacher,/ While from behind, a voice shall sound in your ears:/ “This is the way; walk in it,”/ when you would turn to the right or to the left.

He will be gracious to you when you cry out. (Is 30:19)

CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH

O Lord, you are my God,/ I will extol you and praise your name;/ For you have fulfilled your wonderful plans of old,/ faithful and true. (Is 25:1)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior,

born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old

that he would save us from our enemies,

from the hands of all who hate us.

He promised to show mercy to our fathers

and to remember his holy covenant.

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:

to set us free from the hands of our enemies,

free to worship him without fear,

holy and righteous in his sight

all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet

of the Most High;

for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

to give his people knowledge of salvation

by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness

and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father…

INTERCESSIONS

Let us pray in Christ for all those who are in need of God’s care and protection today:

R/Lord, answer those who seek you!

For those who are in flight from any kind of danger:

– be their protection. R/

For those who live in terror or in want:

– set them free. R/

For those who seek to know your will and do it:

– show them the way. R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

Almighty God, you are the help and protection of your people. Give us this day the daily bread of your Word; guide us in your ways; bring us safely to evening, that we may give you thanks and praise, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
