Pregnant woman loses baby after violent attack

The woman was subject to a racial attack in Bletchley, Buckinghamshire

An unborn baby has died after a pregnant woman was attacked by a man in a supermarket car park.
The 34-year-old woman was beaten to the ground in a Co-op car park in Bletchley, Buckinghamshire, after a row with the man about queue jumping, who followed her out of the store into the car park.
The suspect had been racially abusing the woman in the supermarket before he proceeded to kick and stamp on her outside. Witnesses say that the woman was wearing a headscarf and looked Middle Eastern.
During the attack, a 40-year-old man, understood to be the woman’s partner, tried to intervene but he was left with severe head injuries after the suspect hit him with a bottle and a bag of ice.
The woman was later taken to hospital where she miscarried her baby.
Richard Armitage of Milton Keynes police said: “This racially aggravated assault had absolutely devastating consequences for the victim, who lost her baby as a result of the attack. Our thoughts are with her and her family at this incredibly difficult and sad time.”
The Co-op is situated just yards from the Hazrath Shahjalal Jamie Masjid mosque which was previously a local pub.
British National Party activists protested outside the mosque after it applied to be converted in 2011.
The attack took place at around 9.40pm on Saturday, August 6.
A suspect has been placed under arrest.
