A Spanish flamenco singer could hardly contain her emotions after she met Pope Francis at the Paul VI Hall ahead of his visit to a large Roma gypsy camp in Italy. The Pope was treated to various exhibitions of traditional gypsy dance and singing, with Ms Medina dedicating her song, which accompanied by classical guitar, to Jesus.
Maria Jose Santiago Medina, who was born in a gypsy community in southern Spain, glided across the hall with her arms held out for the long anticipated hug with the Pope.
So overcome with joy and excitement at the ceremony, which was attended by over 5,000 members of the gypsy community, Ms Medina knelt down in front of Pope Francis and briefly held his hand.
