The World Health Organisation (WHO) warns that the mosquito-borne Zika virus which cause brain damages in infant children is fast spreading throughout the American countries, except for Canada and Chile. The Virus according to research is known to be very dominant is various parts of Brazil. Since May 2015 the Virus has spread to around twenty-one (21) countries including Hawaii.
The Brazilian Ministry of Health had last November confirmed that the virus was linked to a foetal deformation known as microcephaly, in which infants are born with smaller-than-usual brains. And so far Brazil has reported 3,893 suspected cases of microcephaly.
A Pan American Health Organization member, Dr Marcos Espinal advise the government of affected countries to take control measures towards eliminating the deadly virus.
The WHO is advising pregnant women planning to travel to areas where Zika is present to consult a healthcare beforehand.
