PRAYER FOR THIS EVENING (MONDAY, JULY 13)

Prayer for the Evening

Let the peoples praise you, O God;

let all the peoples praise you.

Glory to the Fatherโ€ฆ. Alleluia!

HYMN

Light of undying glory, shine,

Warming our hearts with love divine;

Come from the gracious Fatherโ€™s side,

Bathe us in joy this eventide.

Lord Jesus Christ, your living breath

Restores the world from sin and death;

Giver of life and Lord of grace,

Show us the splendor of your face.

Westward the sun is lost to sight,

The star of evโ€™ning marks the night;

Be, Lord, the lamp that shed the glow

Of heavenโ€™s radiance here below.

PSALM 67

Neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who causes the growth. (1 Cor 3:7)

Godโ€™s blessing is true light in the mindโ€™s darkness, true rain for the soulโ€™s earth, true life for the seed of everlasting life that lies buried in the soil of the human heart. With Godโ€™s blessing, the earth yields a rich harvest of generous thoughts, kind words, and good deeds. For todayโ€™s harvest, we give thanks and praise.

O God, be gracious and bless us

and let your face shed its light upon us.

So will your ways be known upon earth

and all nations learn your saving help.

R/Let the peoples praise you, O God;

let all the peoples praise you.

Let the nations be glad and exult

for you rule the world with justice.

With fairness you rule the peoples,

you guide the nations on earth. R/

The earth has yielded its fruit

for God, our God, has blessed us.

May God still give us his blessing

till the ends of the earth revere him. R/

Glory to the Fatherโ€ฆ.

Word of God (Isaiah 18:4, 7)

Thus says the Lord to me:/ I will quietly look on from where I dwell,/ Like the glowing heat of sunshine,/ like a cloud of dew at harvest time.

Then will gifts be brought to the Lord of hosts from a people tall and bronzed, from a people dreaded near and far, a nation strong and conquering, whose land is washed by riversโ€”to Mount Zion where dwells the name of the Lord of hosts.

Some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit,

a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. (Mt 13:8)

CANTICLE OF MARY

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. (Gal 5:22-23)

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:

the Almighty has done great things for me,

and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him

in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,

he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,

and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,

and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel

for he has remembered his promise of mercy,

the promise he made to our fathers,

to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Fatherโ€ฆ

INTERCESSIONS

Let us pray to the Lord of the harvest:

R/Gather us together into a harvest of love.

Lord Jesus, you are sower and harvester:

โ€“ water in us the seeds of charity, that we may grow beyond all division. R/

You are seed and harvest:

โ€“ raise up in us the fruit of the Spirit. R/

You freed all those possessed by demons:

โ€“ uproot from the fields of this world all the weeds sown by the evil one. R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Fatherโ€ฆ.

May the Lord bless us and keep us!/ May the Lord let his face shine upon us, and be gracious to us!/ May the Lord look upon us kindly and give us peace! Amen. (cf. Nm 6:24-26)

MARIAN ANTIPHON

Antiphon for the Memorial of

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, July 16,

from the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite

Your head is like Carmel,

and the hairs of your head,

bound in tresses,

even as royal purple, alleluia.

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia ergo, advocata nostra,

illos tuos misericordes oculos

ad nos converte.

Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,

nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this our exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
