PRAYER FOR THIS EVENING (TUESDAY, JULY 14)

Prayer for the Evening

May our lips be filled with God’s praise,

with his glory all the day long!

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

HYMN

Along the Mohawk River bank

A maiden pure was born;

She grew to love the Lord our God,

And for this love was scorned.

She offered her whole self to God,

To him all glory, honor, laud.

R/Jesus our Lord and King;

Jesus our King.

Come and bless us with your love.

PSALM 71:1-8

To me life is Christ, and death is gain. (Phil 1:21)

Saint Kateri centered her entire life of penitential love on Jesus Christ. Her fate has filled many with awe since she first became a powerful witness of the Gospel through her steadfast adherence to her newfound Lord despite opposition and hardship.

In you, O Lord, I take refuge;

let me never be put to shame.

In your justice rescue me, free me:

pay heed to me and save me.

Be a rock where I can take refuge,

a mighty stronghold to save me;

for you are my rock, my stronghold.

Free me from the hand of the wicked,

from the grip of the unjust, of the oppressor.

It is you, O Lord, who are my hope,

my trust, O Lord, since my youth.

On you I have leaned from my birth,

from my mother’s womb you have been my help.

My hope has always been in you.

My fate has filled many with awe

but you are my strong refuge.

My lips are filled with your praise,

with your glory all the day long.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (Galatians 3:27-29)

All of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendant, heirs according to the promise.

The gospel must be preached to all nations! (cf. Mk 13:10)

CANTICLE OF MARY

I give thanks to my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is heralded throughout the world. (Rom 1:8)

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:

the Almighty has done great things for me,

and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him

in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,

he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,

and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,

and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel

for he has remembered his promise of mercy,

the promise he made to our fathers,

to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father…

INTERCESSIONS

Let us pray through the intercession of Saint Kateri:

R/Fill your people with your praise, O Lord!

For the whole Church:

– instill in all believers fidelity to the Gospel of salvation. R/

For all native peoples to whom the Good News of Christ comes clothed in the language of an alien

culture:

– grant them wisdom in their struggle to reconcile the central values of the Gospel with the good of

their own heritage. R/

For the native peoples of the Americas:

– deliver them from oppression and violence, and restore to them the dignity which is theirs in

Christ. R/

For all who are mocked and persecuted by family and community because they have chosen Christ:

– strengthen them in love. R/

Personal intentions

Our Father….

Grace, mercy, and peace be with us from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father’s Son in truth and love. Amen. (cf. 2 Jn 3)

MARIAN ANTIPHON

Antiphon for the Memorial of

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, July 16,

from the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite

Your head is like Carmel,

and the hairs of your head,

bound in tresses,

even as royal purple, alleluia.

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia ergo, advocata nostra,

illos tuos misericordes oculos

ad nos converte.

Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,

nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this our exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
