Place yourself under Mary’s protection with this prayer
From the earliest centuries of Christianity, the faithful have turned to the Blessed Virgin Mary as their refuge, their advocate, and their surest guide to her Son. She is a living Mother, ever attentive to the cries of her children. Her intercession is not a substitute for Christ’s mercy—it is its most tender expression. For just as the Son came to us through her, so too does He delight that we return to Him through her. In turning to her, the Church finds comfort.
The following ancient prayer, attributed to St. Ephrem the Syrian, reflects this timeless confidence in the Virgin’s mercy and power. It is a hymn of trust, an offering of consecration, and a plea for protection. As you pray it, do so with the certainty that her gaze never leaves those who seek her help.
PRAYER
O immaculate and entirely-pure Virgin Mary, Mother of God.
Through you we have been reconciled with our God.
You are the advocate of sinners, and the secure haven of those who are sailing on the sea of this life.
You are the consolation of the world, the ransom of captives, the joy of the sick, the comfort of the afflicted, the refuge.
O great Mother of God, cover us with the wings of your mercy, and pity us.
We are given to you, and consecrated to your service.
O immaculate Virgin, we are under your protection.
