PRAYER FOR THIS MORNING (THURSDAY, JULY 16)

Prayer for the Morning

From Zion has gone forth instruction,

the word of the Lord from Jerusalem:

come, let us adore!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN

Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel

Whom in ancient prophecy

God revealed to Saint Elijah

By an Oriental sea,

Rise again on God’s creation,

Bring to bloom this arid place

With the white cloud of your beauty

And the rainfall of your grace.

Virgin of the Incarnation,

In the mysteries of grace

God has made his habitation

In our soul’s most secret place.

Toward that bright and inner kingdom

All our words and ways compel,

For the Father, Son and Spirit

In its sacred silence dwell.

CANTICLE OF ISAIAH 2:2-5

I lift up my eyes to the mountains:/ from where shall come my help? (Ps 121:1)

The title “Our Lady of Mount Carmel,” named for the lovely place where the Prophet Elijah dwelt in service to the word of God, expresses a sense of the beauty, silence, and prayer that characterize Mary, the Mother of our Redeemer.

In days to come,

the mountain of the Lord’s house

shall be established as the highest mountain

and raised above the hills.

All nations shall stream toward it;

many peoples shall come and say:

“Come, let us climb the Lord’s mountain,

to the house of the God of Jacob,

that he may instruct us in his ways,

and we may walk in his paths.”

For from Zion shall go forth instruction,

and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

He shall judge between the nations,

and impose terms on many peoples.

They shall beat their swords into plowshares

and their spears into pruning hooks;

one nation shall not raise the sword against another,

nor shall they train for war again.

O house of Jacob, come,

let us walk in the light of the Lord!

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (Ezekiel 20:40)

On my holy mountain, on the mountain height of Israel, says the Lord God, there the whole house of Israel without exception shall worship me; there I will accept them, and there I will claim your tributes and the first fruits of your offerings, and all that you dedicate.

I will bring back Israel to her fold,/ to feed

on Carmel till she has her fill.

(cf. Jer 50:19)

CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH

Shepherd your people with your staff,/ the flock of your inheritance,/ That dwells apart in a woodland,/ in the midst of Carmel. (Mi 7:14)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior,

born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old

that he would save us from our enemies,

from the hands of all who hate us.

He promised to show mercy to our fathers

and to remember his holy covenant.

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:

to set us free from the hands of our enemies,

free to worship him without fear,

holy and righteous in his sight

all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet

of the Most High;

for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

to give his people knowledge of salvation

by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness

and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father…

Personal intentions

Our Father….

God and giver of all good gifts, you have given us the Blessed Virgin Mary as a sign of the beauty of your Kingdom brought to fulfillment. Through her example and intercession, teach us the spirit of silence and prayer that enabled her to hear your word with love and serve you with fidelity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THIS EVENING (WEDNESDAY, JULY 15)

Prayer for the Evening

Christ, the seed that fell into the ground and died,

has borne much fruit: let us give thanks and praise!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN

Who can tell what wisdom brings,

First of all created things?

One alone is truly wise,

Hidden from our earthbound eyes:

Knowledge lies in him alone—

God, the Lord upon his throne.

Wisdom in his plans he laid,

Planted her in all he made,

Granted her to humankind,

Sowed her truth in every mind;

But with richest wisdom blessed

Those who love him first and best.

PSALM 67

Neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who causes the growth. (1 Cor 3:7)

By study, prayer, and teaching, Saint Bonaventure planted the seed of God’s Word in the hearts of many. Through his writings and his intercession, with God’s blessing, may our earth continue to yield a rich harvest of faith, hope, charity, and zeal for the Gospel.

O God, be gracious and bless us

and let your face shed its light upon us.

So will your ways be known upon earth

and all nations learn your saving help.

Let the peoples praise you, O God;

let all the peoples praise you.

Let the nations be glad and exult

for you rule the world with justice.

With fairness you rule the peoples,

you guide the nations on earth.

Let the peoples praise you, O God;

let all the peoples praise you.

The earth has yielded its fruit

for God, our God, has blessed us.

May God still give us his blessing

till the ends of the earth revere him.

Let the peoples praise you, O God;

let all the peoples praise you.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (1 Corinthians 1:20-25)

Where is the wise one? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made the wisdom of the world foolish? For since in the wisdom of God the world did not come to know God through wisdom, it was the will of God through the foolishness of the proclamation to save those who have faith. For Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are called, Jews and Greeks alike, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

The desire for Wisdom leads up to a kingdom!

CANTICLE OF MARY

I prayed, and prudence was given me;/ I pleaded, and the spirit of Wisdom came to me. (Wis 7:7)

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:

the Almighty has done great things for me,

and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him

in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,

he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,

and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,

and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel

for he has remembered his promise of mercy,

the promise he made to our fathers,

to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father…

INTERCESSIONS

O Lord, you have guided your Church through the minds and hearts of your holy Doctors. With them, we now pray:

R/Make known your ways; teach me your paths.

O Lord, you filled Saint Bonaventure with the spirit of wisdom and understanding:

– pour out your Spirit on all those you have called to leadership. R/

O Lord, you drew Saint Bonaventure to ponder your hidden mysteries in his heart:

– deepen in all your people the desire to pray. R/

O Lord, you sent Saint Bonaventure to teach the wisdom he had learned through prayer and study:

– send us wise teachers in our day. R/

O Lord, you brought Saint Bonaventure at last to contemplate you in your glory at the right hand of the Father:

– gather into your presence all our dead. R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

May God still give us his blessing! Amen. (cf. Ps 67:8)

MARIAN ANTIPHON

Antiphon for the Memorial of

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, July 16,

from the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite

Your head is like Carmel,

and the hairs of your head,

bound in tresses,

even as royal purple, alleluia.

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia ergo, advocata nostra,

illos tuos misericordes oculos

ad nos converte.

Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,

nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this our exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

AND TODAY WE CELEBRATE… Saint of the Day: St. Bonaventure (WEDNESDAY, JULY 15)

Franciscan Doctor of the Church (1221-1274)

His life

+ Bonaventure was born in Tuscany in 1221. As a boy, he met Saint Francis of Assisi and he was inspired to enter the Franciscan Order in 1243.

+ He was elected Minister General of the Franciscan Order in 1257. This was a time of crisis for the order as various factions began to interpret the teachings of Saint Francis in different ways. Bonaventure stressed the basic Franciscan values, especially poverty.

+ A brilliant thinker and gifted writer, he saw study and learning as being important for the friars’ ministries of preaching and teaching.

+ In 1273, Bonaventure was named cardinal-archbishop of Albano, Italy. He became a key figure in the theological and philosophical disputes of his day.

+ Saint Bonaventure, the “Seraphic Doctor,” died in 1274 while taking part in the Council of Lyons. He was canonized in 1482 and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1588.

For prayer and reflection

“On earth… we may contemplate the divine immensity through reasoning and admiration; in the heavenly homeland, on the other hand, through the vision, when we are likened to God and through ecstasy… we shall enter into the joy of God.”—Saint Bonaventure

Prayer

Grant, we pray, almighty God,

that, just as we celebrate the heavenly birthday

of the Bishop Saint Bonaventure,

we may benefit from his great learning

and constantly imitate the ardor of his charity.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THIS MORNING (WEDNESDAY, JULY 15)

Prayer for the Morning

Christ is the fount of wisdom: come, let us adore!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN

O Fount of truth, O Source of light,

From whom all wisdom flows,

No truth is found apart from thee

In aught man seeks or knows.

To every door of knowledge true

Thou art authentic key,

For every sphere of nature’s law

Acclaims its source in thee.

O may thy children e’er acclaim

Thy wisdom, and adore

Thy presence as the living Source

From which all knowledge flows.

CANTICLE (Wisdom 9:1-6, 9-11)

By wisdom is a house built,/ by understanding is it made firm. (Prv 24:3)

Saint Bonaventure sought wisdom in God’s revelation through prayer and study. He filled the hearts of others with the fruits of his learning through his work of teaching, and in wisdom he built up the Order of Friars Minor (Franciscans) through his leadership.

God of my fathers, Lord of mercy,

you who have made all things by your word

and in your wisdom have established man

to rule the creatures produced by you,

to govern the world in holiness and justice,

and to render judgment in integrity of heart:

Give me Wisdom, the attendant at your throne,

and reject me not from among your children;

for I am your servant, the son of your handmaid,

a man weak and short-lived

and lacking in comprehension of judgment and of laws.

Indeed, though one be perfect among the sons of men,

if Wisdom, who comes from you, be not with him,

he shall be held in no esteem.

Now with you is Wisdom, who knows your works

and was present when you made the world;

who understands what is pleasing in your eyes

and what is conformable with your commands.

Send her forth from your holy heavens

and from your glorious throne dispatch her

that she may be with me and work with me,

that I may know what is your pleasure.

For she knows and understands all things,

and will guide me discreetly in my affairs

and safeguard me by her glory.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (Proverbs 9:1-6)

Wisdom has built her house,/ she has set up her seven columns;/ She has dressed her meat, mixed her wine,/ yes, she has spread her table./ She has sent out her maidens; she calls/ from the heights out over the city:/ “Let whoever is simple turn in here;/ to him who lacks understanding, I say,/ Come, eat of my food,/ and drink of the wine I have mixed!/ Forsake foolishness that you may live,/ advance in the way of understanding.”

Listen, and you will have life!

CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH

The Lord gives wisdom,/ from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. (Prv 2:6)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior,

born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old

that he would save us from our enemies,

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:

to set us free from the hands of our enemies,

free to worship him without fear,

holy and righteous in his sight

all the days of our life.

of the Most High;

to give his people knowledge of salvation

by the forgiveness of their sins.

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness

NOVENA IN HONOR OF THE HOLY FEET OF JESUS

Day One:

With Mary and Joseph we adore the Infant Feet of Jesus.

Beloved Jesus, your infant feet,

cared for and adored by Mary and Joseph,

were a visible sign of your innocence and purity.

May we strive always to imitate your innocence and purity.

As we adore your Holy Feet,

may your merits win for us

the requests we make to the Father in your name.

[Make your request here…]

Holy Feet of Jesus we kiss you and adore you.

Say 10 Our Father…

Day Two:

The Holy Feet of Jesus bridge Heaven and Earth.

Beloved Jesus, your Holy Feet

were the physical bridge between Heaven and Earth.

Each step you took sanctified and cleansed the world you came to save.

May we be filled with unending gratitude for this amazing gift.

We adore your Holy Feet as we make our requests

with confidence in your saving love.

[Make your request here…]

Holy Feet of Jesus we kiss you and adore you.

Say 10 Our Father…

Day Three:

The Holy Feet of Jesus carry the Good News to the poor.

Beloved Jesus, how your Holy Feet suffered

as they trod the hot and dusty roads of the Holy Land

to bring the Good News to the poor!

May we imitate your untiring devotion

in spreading the Gospel message.

As we adore your Holy Feet so battered for our sake,

may you look with kindness upon our requests.

[Make your request here…]

Holy Feet of Jesus we kiss you and adore you.

Say 10 Our Father…

Day Four:

Jairus falls at the Holy Feet of Jesus to make his request.

Beloved Jesus, you had mercy on Jairus

who fell at your Holy Feet

and made supplication to you for the life

and health of his daughter.

In your mercy you rewarded his faith and answered his prayer.

May you look with mercy on us also

as we fall at your Holy Feet in faith and trust,

to make our requests.

[Make your request here…]

Holy Feet of Jesus we kiss you and adore you.

Say 10 Our Father…

Day Five:

Mary sits at the Holy Feet of Jesus listening to Him.

Beloved Jesus, you told Martha that her sister Mary

had chosen the “better part”

in choosing to sit at your feet and listen to you.

Like Mary, may we always choose the better part.

As we sit at your Holy Feet to listen to you and worship you,

may you look on our requests with love and compassion.

[Make your request here…]

Holy Feet of Jesus we kiss you and adore you.

Say 10 Our Father…

Day Six:

Mary kisses the Holy Feet of Jesus.

Beloved Jesus, Mary bathed your Holy Feet

with her tears and wiped them with her hair.

She covered your feet with kisses

and anointed them with costly oil.

May we also show you great love in gratitude

for all we have been given and forgiven.

With confidence and trust in your great love for us,

we humbly make our requests to you today.

[Make your request here…]

Holy Feet of Jesus we kiss you and adore you.

Say 10 Our Father…

Day Seven:

The Holy Feet of Jesus are nailed to the cross.

Beloved Jesus, you allowed your Holy Feet

to be nailed to the cross out of love for us.

You allowed your precious blood to spill to the earth

from the wounds made by the nails.

Give us the courage we need

to stand at the foot of the cross

with our Blessed Mother and St. John,

and kiss your Holy Feet.

May the precious blood shed by your Holy Feet

win for us the requests we humbly make today.

[Make your request here…]

Holy Feet of Jesus we kiss you and adore you.

Say 10 Our Father…

Day Eight:

The disciples embrace the Holy Feet of the Risen Lord.

Beloved Jesus, you met the disciples on the road

after you had risen from the dead.

In love and joy they embraced your Holy Feet

and paid you homage.

May we also worship you as Lord and Saviour,

embracing your Holy Feet.

In your infinite mercy,

please take our requests to the Father whose glory you share.

[Make your request here…]

Holy Feet of Jesus we kiss you and adore you.

Say 10 Our Father…

Day Nine:

God puts all things under the Holy Feet of Jesus.

Beloved Jesus, your reign will last until

you have placed all your enemies under your Holy Feet.

May our prayers and sacrifices hasten the day

of your coming in glory.

Risen Lord, merciful King,

look with favor on our requests

and grant them according to your holy will.

[Make your request here…]

Holy Feet of Jesus we kiss you and adore you.

A POWERFUL NOVENA FOR THE DEFEAT OF SATAN

Prayer to Our Lady, Queen of Angels

August Queen of Heaven,

Sovereign Mistress of the Angels,

Thou Who from the beginning has received from God

the power and mission to crush the head of satan,

we humbly beseech Thee to send Thy Holy Legions that,

under Thy command and by Thy power,

they may pursue the evil spirits,

encounter them on every side,

resist their bold attacks

and drive them hence into the abyss of eternal woe.

Amen.

Prayer to God the Father

O Divine Eternal Father,

in union with your Divine Son and the Holy Spirit,

and through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,

I beg You to destroy the Power of your greatest enemy, the evil spirits.

Cast them into the deepest recesses of hell

and chain them there forever!

Take possession of your Kingdom

which You have created and which is rightfully yours.

Heavenly Father, give us the reign

of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

I repeat this prayer out of pure love for You

with every beat of my heart

and with every breath I take.

Amen.

“Who Is Like Unto God!”

O good and tender Mother!

Thou shalt ever be our love and our hope.

Holy Angels and Archangels,

keep us and defend us.

Amen.

Prayer to Saint Michael.

Glorious St. Michael, Prince of the Heavenly Hosts,

who standest always ready to give assistance to the faithful,

who didst fight with the dragon,

the old serpent and didst cast him out of Heaven,

and now valiantly defendest the Church of God

that the gates of hell shall not prevail against her,

I earnestly entreat Thee to assist us also

against the painful and dangerous conflict

which we have to sustain against the same formidable foe.

Be with us, O mighty Prince,

that we may courageously fight

and wholly vanquish that proud spirit

whom Thou hast by the Divine Power

so gloriously overthrown

and whom our powerful King, Jesus Christ,

has, in our nature, so completely overcome;

so that having triumphed over the enemy of our salvation,

we may with Thee and the Holy Angels

praise God Who has granted the possibility of repentance

and forgiveness to fallen man.

Amen.

St. Michael, Archangel,

most powerful Prince of the armies of the Lord

and standard bearer of the Most Holy Trinity,

Pray for us, defend the Church and cast satan into hell.

St. Michael, Bulwark of believers,

and strength of those who fight under the standard of the Cross

Pray for us, defend the Church and cast satan into hell.

St. Michael, Our help in all adversities

and Herald of the everlasting sentence

Pray for us, defend the Church and cast satan into hell.

St. Gabriel, Glorious Archangel,

Strength of God and Herald of the Incarnation

Pray for us, defend the Church and cast satan into hell.

St. Gabriel, Guardian of the Immaculate Virgin,

who revealed the glories of Mary,

and who foretold the greatness of Jesus

Pray for us, defend the Church and cast satan into hell.

St. Gabriel, Strength of the Just,

Protector of the faithful and Defender of the Faith

Pray for us, defend the Church and cast satan into hell.

St. Raphael, Glorious Archangel,

Terror of demons and our refuge in trials

Pray for us, defend the Church and cast satan into hell.

The Warfare Prayer

[Source: “The Adversary” by Mark I. Bubeck.]

Heavenly Father, I bow in worship and praise before You.

I cover myself with the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ

as my protection during this time of prayer.

I surrender myself completely and unreservedly

in every area of my life to Yourself.

I do take a stand against all the workings of Satan

that would hinder me in this time of prayer,

and I address myself only to the true and living God

and refuse any involvement of Satan in my prayer.

[Satan, I command you, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,

to leave my presence with all your demons,

and I bring the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ between us.]

Heavenly Father, I worship You, and I give You praise.

I recognize that You are worthy

to receive all glory and honor and praise.

I renew my allegiance to You

and pray that the blessed Holy Spirit

would enable me in this time of prayer.

I am thankful, heavenly Father,

that You have loved me from past eternity,

that You sent the Lord Jesus Christ into the world

to die as my substitute that I would be redeemed.

I am thankful that the Lord Jesus Christ

came as my representative,

and that through Him You have completely forgiven me;

You have given me eternal life;

You have given me the perfect righteousness

of the Lord Jesus Christ so I am now justified.

I am thankful that in Him You have made me complete,

and that You have offered Yourself to me

to be my daily help and strength.

Heavenly Father, come and open my eyes

that I might see how great You are

and how complete Your provision is for this new day.

I do, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,

take my place with Christ in the heavenlies

with all principalities and powers

(powers of darkness and wicked spirits) under my feet.

I am thankful that the victory

the Lord Jesus Christ won for me on the cross

and in His resurrection has been given to me

and that I am seated

with the Lord Jesus Christ in the heavenlies;

therefore, I declare that all principalities and powers

and all wicked spirits are subject to me

in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I am thankful for the armor You have provided,

and I put on the girdle of truth,

the breastplate of righteousness,

the sandals of peace,

the helmet of salvation.

I lift up the shield of faith

against all the fiery darts of the enemy,

and take in my hand the sword of the spirit,

the Word of God,

and use Your Word against all the forces of evil in my life;

and I put on this armor

and live and pray in complete dependence upon You,

blessed Holy Spirit.

I am grateful, heavenly Father,

that the Lord Jesus Christ spoiled all principalities and powers

and made a show of them openly

and triumphed over them in Himself.

I claim all that victory for my life today.

I reject out of my life all the insinuations,

the accusations, and the temptations of Satan.

I affirm that the Word of God is true,

and I choose to live today in the light of God’s Word.

I choose, heavenly Father,

to live in obedience to You

and in fellowship with Yourself.

Open my eyes and show me the areas of my life

that would not please You.

Work in my life that there be no ground

to give Satan a foothold against me.

Show me any area of weakness.

Show me any area of my life

that I must deal with so that I would please You.

I do in every way today stand for You

and the ministry of the Holy Spirit in my life.

By faith and in dependence upon You,

I put off the old man

and stand into all the victory of the crucifixion

where the Lord Jesus Christ provided cleansing from the old nature.

I put on the new man

and stand into all the victory of the resurrection

and the provision He has made for me there to live above sin.

Therefore, in this day,

I put off the old nature

with its selfishness,

and I put on the new nature with its love.

I put off the old nature with its fear

and I put on the new nature with its courage.

I put off the old nature with its weakness

and I put on the new nature with its strength.

I put off today the old nature with all its deceitful lusts

and I put on the new nature

with all its righteousness and purity.

I do in every way stand into the victory of the ascension

and the glorification of the Son of God

where all principalities and powers

were made subject to Him,

and I claim my place in Christ

victorious with Him over all the enemies of my soul.

Blessed Holy Spirit,

I pray that You would fill me.

Come into my life,

break down every idol

and cast out every foe.

I am thankful, heavenly Father,

for the expression of Your will for my daily life

as You have shown me in Your Word.

I therefore claim all the will of God for today.

I am thankful that You have blessed me

with all spiritual blessings

in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

I am thankful that You have begotten me

unto a living hope by the resurrection

of Jesus Christ from the dead.

I am thankful that You have made a provision

so that today I can live filled with the Spirit of God

with love and joy and self-control in my life.

And I recognize that this is Your will for me,

and I therefore reject and resist all the endeavors of Satan

and of his demons to rob me of the will of God.

I refuse in this day to believe my feelings,

and I hold up the shield of faith

against all the accusations

and against all the insinuations

that Satan would put in my mind.

I claim the fullness of the will of God for today.

I do, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,

completely surrender myself to You, heavenly Father,

as a living sacrifice.

I choose not to be conformed to this world.

I choose to be transformed by the renewing of my mind,

and I pray that You would show me Your will

and enable me to walk

in all the fullness of the will of God today.

I am thankful, heavenly Father,

that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal,

but mighty through God

to the pulling down of strongholds,

to the casting down of imaginations

and every high thing that exalted itself

against the knowledge of God,

and to bring every thought into obedience

to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore in my own life today

I tear down the strongholds of Satan,

and I smash the plans of Satan

that have been formed against me.

I tear down the strongholds of Satan against my mind,

and I surrender my mind to You,

blessed Holy Spirit.

I affirm, heavenly Father,

that You have not given us the spirit of fear,

but of power and of love

and of a sound mind.

I break and smash the strongholds of Satan

formed against my emotions today,

and I give my emotions to You.

I smash the strongholds of Satan

formed against my will today,

and I give my will to You,

and choose to make the right decisions of faith.

I smash the strongholds of Satan

formed against my body today,

and I give my body to You,

recognizing that I am Your temple;

and I rejoice in Your mercy and Your goodness.

Heavenly Father, I pray that now

through this day You would quicken me;

show me the way that Satan is hindering

and tempting and lying and counterfeiting

and distorting the truth in my life.

Enable me to be the kind of person

that would please You.

Enable me to be aggressive in prayer.

Enable me to be aggressive mentally

and to think Your thoughts after You,

and to give You Your rightful place in my life.

Again, I now cover myself

with the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ

and pray that You, blessed Holy Spirit,

would bring all the work of the crucifixion,

all the work of the resurrection,

all the work of the glorification,

and all the work of Pentecost

into my life today.

I surrender myself to You.

I refuse to be discouraged.

You are the God of all hope.

You have proven Your power

by resurrecting Jesus Christ from the dead,

and I claim in every way Your victory

over all satanic forces active in my life,

and I reject these forces;

and I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ

with thanksgiving.

Amen.

Pray this prayer to the Archangels for protection and healing

This prayer calls on Michael, Gabriel and Raphael to provide heavenly assistance in our hour of need.

When God created the angels he appointed many of them to be at the service of humanity. Besides giving everyone a personal guardian to protect them in this life, God has also appointed three archangels to provide us aid on our pilgrimage to heaven. This fact shows how much care God has for us, surrounding us with powerful angelic beings to serve, guard and protect us. In particular, these three heavenly helpers were given specific roles and we are encouraged to invoke them in our hour of need.

St. Raphael, a powerful healer for anyone suffering right now

Below is a beautiful prayer to the Archangels that highlights the role each Archangel has been given by God and how that role can help us when we need them the most.

Heavenly King, You have given us archangels

to assist us during our pilgrimage on earth.

Saint Michael is our protector;

I ask him to come to my aid,

fight for all my loved ones,

and protect us from danger.

Saint Gabriel is a messenger of the Good News;

I ask him to help me

clearly hear Your voice

and to teach me the truth.

Saint Raphael is the healing angel;

I ask him to take my need for healing

and that of everyone I know,

lift it up to Your throne of grace

and deliver back to us the gift of recovery.

Help us, O Lord,

to realize more fully the reality of the archangels

and their desire to serve us.

Holy angels,

pray for us.

Amen.

PRAYER FOR THIS EVENING (TUESDAY, JULY 14)

Prayer for the Evening

May our lips be filled with God’s praise,

with his glory all the day long!

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

HYMN

Along the Mohawk River bank

A maiden pure was born;

She grew to love the Lord our God,

And for this love was scorned.

She offered her whole self to God,

To him all glory, honor, laud.

R/Jesus our Lord and King;

Jesus our King.

Come and bless us with your love.

PSALM 71:1-8

To me life is Christ, and death is gain. (Phil 1:21)

Saint Kateri centered her entire life of penitential love on Jesus Christ. Her fate has filled many with awe since she first became a powerful witness of the Gospel through her steadfast adherence to her newfound Lord despite opposition and hardship.

In you, O Lord, I take refuge;

let me never be put to shame.

In your justice rescue me, free me:

pay heed to me and save me.

Be a rock where I can take refuge,

a mighty stronghold to save me;

for you are my rock, my stronghold.

Free me from the hand of the wicked,

from the grip of the unjust, of the oppressor.

It is you, O Lord, who are my hope,

my trust, O Lord, since my youth.

On you I have leaned from my birth,

from my mother’s womb you have been my help.

My hope has always been in you.

My fate has filled many with awe

but you are my strong refuge.

My lips are filled with your praise,

with your glory all the day long.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (Galatians 3:27-29)

All of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendant, heirs according to the promise.

The gospel must be preached to all nations! (cf. Mk 13:10)

CANTICLE OF MARY

I give thanks to my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is heralded throughout the world. (Rom 1:8)

Glory to the Father…

culture:

– grant them wisdom in their struggle to reconcile the central values of the Gospel with the good of

their own heritage. R/

For the native peoples of the Americas:

– deliver them from oppression and violence, and restore to them the dignity which is theirs in

MARIAN ANTIPHON

Antiphon for the Memorial of

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, July 16,

from the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite

Your head is like Carmel,

and the hairs of your head,

bound in tresses,

even as royal purple, alleluia.

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia ergo, advocata nostra,

illos tuos misericordes oculos

ad nos converte.

Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,

nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this our exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

PRAYER FOR THIS MORNING (TUESDAY, JULY 14)

Prayer for the Morning

Exalt and acclaim God’s name!

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

HYMN

Most blessed maiden of this land,

You sanctify our native soil.

Your witness to our holy faith,

Gives us new courage in the toil.

Rejected by your tribe and kin,

Your solace was in God alone.

O Lily of the Mohawks, pure,

Help us for this land to atone.

O, Lord of every tribe and man,

Great Father over all the earth,

With Son and Holy Spirit One,

Bless this great country of our birth.

CANTICLE OF JUDITH (16:1-2, 13-15)

O praise the Lord, all you nations,/ acclaim him, all you peoples! (Ps 117:1)

Delivered from a life of great pain for a life of deep, personal love for Jesus Christ, Saint Kateri sang the new hymn of those whose lives are shaped by the saving sign of the cross.

Strike up the instruments,

a song to my God with timbrels,

chant to the Lord with cymbals.

Sing to him a new song,

exalt and acclaim his name.

For the Lord is God; he crushes warfare,

and sets his encampment among his people;

he snatched me from the hands of my persecutors.

A new hymn I will sing to my God.

O Lord, great are you and glorious,

wonderful in power and unsurpassable.

Let your every creature serve you;

for you spoke, and they were made,

you sent forth your spirit, and they were created;

no one can resist your word.

The mountains to their bases, and the seas, are shaken;

the rocks, like wax, melt before your glance.

But to those who fear you,

you are very merciful.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (Philippians 3:7-10)

Whatever gains I had, these I have come to consider a loss because of Christ. More than that, I even consider everything as a loss because of the supreme good of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have accepted the loss of all things and I consider them so much rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having any righteousness of my own based on the law but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God, depending on faith to know him and the power of his resurrection and [the] sharing of his sufferings by being conformed to his death.

I love you, Lord, my strength! (Ps 18:2)

CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH

Into your hands I commend my spirit./ It is you who will redeem me, Lord. (Ps 31:6)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet

of the Most High;

for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

to give his people knowledge of salvation

by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness

and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father…
