Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in the day of battle! Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul
O holy Apostles, Peter and Paul, intercede for us. Protect, O Lord, your people who trust in the patronage of your Apostles, Peter and Paul, and by their constant protection protect your people. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary after Holy Communion
Mary, holy Virgin Mother, I have received your Son, Jesus Christ. With love you became His mother, gave birth to Him, nursed Him, and helped Him grow to manhood. With love I return Him to you, to hold once more, to love with all your heart, and to offer to the Holy Trinity as our supreme act of worship for your honor and the good of all your pilgrim brothers and sisters. Mother, ask God to forgive my sins and to help me to serve Him more faithfully. Keep me true to Christ until death, and let me come to praise Him with you for ever and ever. Amen.
Prayer to Mary to Stand by Me
Mother of mercy and love, blessed Virgin Mary, I am a poor and unworthy sinner, and I turn to you in confidence and love. You stood by your Son as he hung dying on the cross. Stand also by me, a poor sinner, and by all the priests who are offering Mass today here and throughout the entire Church. Help us to offer a perfect and acceptable sacrifice in the sight of the holy and undivided Trinity, our Most High God. Amen.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit, inspire me to think as I ought; to speak as I ought; to keep silent when I ought; to write as I ought; to act as I ought; and to work as I ought for the good of my brothers and sisters, the fulfillment of my mission and the triumph of the Kingdom of Christ. Amen.
Prayer to the Infant Jesus of Prague
O miraculous Infant Jesus, prostrate before your sacred image, we beseech you to cast a merciful look on our troubled hearts. Let your tender Heart, so inclined to pity, be softened by our prayers, and grant us that grace for which we ardently implore you. Take from us all affliction and despair, all trials and misfortunes with which we are laden. For your sacred infancy’s sake, hear our prayers and send us consolation and aid, that we may praise you, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.
Prayer to the Mother of Consolation
by Pope Saint John Paul II
O Virgin Most Holy, be the sole and perennial consolation of the Church which you love and protect! Console your bishops and priests, missionaries and religious who have to enlighten and save modern society, which is difficult and sometimes hostile! Console Christian communities by giving them the gift of numerous and solid priestly and religious vocations! Console all those who are invested with authority and responsibility, civil and religious, social and political, so that they may always and only have the common good and integral development of man as their goal, in spite of difficulties and defeats! Console the so many families of those who have emigrated, the unemployed, the suffering, those who bear wounds in their bodies and souls caused by dramatic emergency situations; the young, especially those who find themselves abandoned and deprived of confidence for so many sad reasons; all those who feel ardent need in their souls for love, for altruism, for charity, for forgiving, who cultivate high ideals of spiritual and social gains! O Mother of Consolation, console us all, and let all understand that the secret of happiness lies in goodness, in always faithfully following your Son, Jesus! Amen.
Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Saint John Henry Newman (1801-1890)
by Saint John Henry Newman (1801-1890)
Most sacred, most loving Heart of Jesus, you are concealed in the Holy Eucharist, and you bear for us still. Now, as then, you say: “With desire [ have desired.” I worship you with all my best love and awe, with fervent affection, with my most subdued, most resolved will. For a while you take up your abode within me. O make my heart beat with your Heart! Purify it of all that is earthly, all that is proud and sensual, of all perversity, of all disorder. So fill it with you, that neither the events of the day, nor the circumstances of the time, may have 1he power to ruffle it; but that in your love and your fear, it may have peace. Amen.
Prayers for the Respect of Human Life
by John A. Hardon, SJ
Mary, Mother of God, at your request, Jesus worked His first miracle. He changed water into wine for the wedding guests at Cana in Galilee. Over the centuries you have not ceased to obtain countless signs and wonders for the poor, exiled children of Eve. We therefore ask you to intercede with your Divine Son for the miraculous graces which the modern world so desperately needs: For the conversion and reconversion of whole nations to Jesus Christ and His teaching on marriage and the family; For the heroic preservation among Christians of their faith in the indissolubility of marriage, marital fidelity and the loving acceptance of children, as the bedrock of the Christian family; For the courage of martyrs in all of us followers of Christ, that we may witness to His power to overcome the powers of darkness that are bent on destroying the human family and the moral law. Mary, Mother of the Holy Family, and Mother of our families, pray for us. Amen.
Prayers for the Sick
God our Father, your Son accepted our sufferings to teach us the virtue of patience in human illness. Hear the prayers we offer for our sick brother/sister. May all who suffer pain, illness, or disease realize that they have been chosen to be saints and know that they are joined to Christ in his suffering for the salvation of the world. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Father in heaven, grant (name) comfort in suffering. Give this person courage when afraid, patience when afflicted, hope when dejected, and when alone assurance of the prayerful support of your holy people. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
