PRAYER FOR THIS EVENING (WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 25)

Prayer for the Evening

Let us praise Jesus Christ, who dwells in our midst!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN

Cry, faithful messengers of God,

โ€œBehold the great Redeemerโ€™s bloodโ€;

Urge unto him all men to come,

For Jesus says there yet is room.

You naked, poor, oppressed, appear,

Unto Messiahโ€™s door draw near:

Obey the call, undoubting come,

For Jesus says there yet is room.

Whoever Jesus Christ believe,

That favored soul shall ever live;

Shall taste below of joys to come,

And Jesus says there yet is room.

PSALM 113

So now, O children, listen to me,/ be attentive to the words of my mouth! (Prv 7:24)

Jesus Christ, the Word of God, is Emmanuel, โ€œGod-with-us.โ€ Today, as during his earthly life, he dwells among the poor, the lowly, the brokenhearted, and the crushed in spirit, bringing peace and healing all wounds by the power of his living Word. His disciples are still commanded to โ€œgo and do likewise.โ€

Praise, O servants of the Lord,

praise the name of the Lord!

May the name of the Lord be blessed

both now and for evermore!

From the rising of the sun to its setting

praised be the name of the Lord!

High above all nations is the Lord,

above the heavens his glory.

Who is like the Lord, our God,

who has risen on high to his throne

yet stoops from the heights to look down,

to look down upon heaven and earth?

From the dust he lifts up the lowly,

from his misery he raises the poor

to set him in the company of princes,

yes, with the princes of his people.

To the childless wife he gives a home

and gladdens her heart with children.

Glory to the Fatherโ€ฆ.

Word of God (Isaiah 57:15)

Thus says he who is high and exalted,/ living eternally, whose name is the Holy One:/ On high I dwell, and in holiness,/ and with the crushed and dejected in ยญspirit,/ To revive the spirits of the dejected,/ to revive the hearts of the crushed.

Whoever keeps Christโ€™s word, the love of God is truly perfected in him. (cf. 1 Jn 2:5)

CANTICLE OF MARY

Blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it! (Lk 11:28)

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:

the Almighty has done great things for me,

and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him

in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,

he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,

and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,

and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel

for he has remembered his promise of mercy,

the promise he made to our fathers,

to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Fatherโ€ฆ

INTERCESSIONS

Fashioned by the word of God, let our prayer rise like incense before the heavenly throne:

R/Open our ears to hear your Word, O Lord.

Keep our tongue from evil,

โ€“ that we may proclaim your Word. R/

Keep our lips from speaking deceit,

โ€“ that we may speak your truth. R/

Turn us aside from evil,

โ€“ that we may do good. R/

Inspire us to seek and strive after peace,

โ€“ that we may be true disciples. R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Fatherโ€ฆ.

May the Lord treat and assuage our wounds, heal us, and reveal to us an abundance of lasting peace. Amen. (cf. Jer 33:6)

MARIAN ANTIPHON

Antiphon of the Divine Office

My soul magnifies the Lord,

for God has regarded my humility.

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia ergo, advocata nostra,

illos tuos misericordes oculos

ad nos converte.

Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,

nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this our exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Alma Redemptoris Mater, quae pervia caeli

porta manes, et stella maris, succurre cadenti,

surgere qui curat, populo: tu quae genuisti,

natura mirante, tuum sanctum Genitorem,

Virgo prius ac posterius, Gabrielis ab ore

sumens illud Ave, peccatorum miserere.

Loving mother of the Redeemer,

gate of heaven, star of the sea,

assist your people who have fallen yet strive to rise again.

To the wonderment of nature you bore your Creator,

yet remained a virgin after as before.

You who received Gabrielโ€™s joyful greeting,

have pity on us, poor sinners.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
