Prayer for the Morning
Let all the earth fear the Lord,
all who live in the world revere him!
Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!
O lovely light of fatherland!
Kind beacon to Slavonic race,
Brothers, all hail! your festival
With yearly canticle we grace.
Whom Rome applauding did receive,
As mother doth her sons embrace,
With pontiff’s miter deck your brows,
Gird with new strength, new toil to face.
To far-off barb’rous lands ye hie,
Knowledge and love of Christ to bear;
Whom error vain had long deceived,
Ye now with light replenish fair.
In hearts unfettered from the grasp
Of ill, doth heav’nly ardor glow;
Where horrid thorns the land devoured,
The flowers of holiness now grow.
All wanderers plunged in errors dark
May Christ’s one fold to union bring;
While emulous of ancestral deeds
May faith to new-born beauty spring.
Tell his glory among the nations;/ among all peoples, his wondrous deeds. (1 Chr 16:24)
Saints Cyril and Methodius labored tirelessly to bring the word of God to life among the Slavic people through their preaching, teaching, translating, and liturgical work. Through their creative and courageous ministry, God filled that part of the earth with his love.
Ring out your joy to the Lord, O you just;
for praise is fitting for loyal hearts.
Give thanks to the Lord upon the lyre,
with a ten-stringed harp sing him songs.
O sing him a song that is new,
play loudly, with all your skill.
For the word of the Lord is faithful
and all his works to be trusted.
The Lord loves justice and right
and fills the earth with his love.
By his word the heavens were made,
by the breath of his mouth all the stars.
He collects the waves of the ocean;
he stores up the depths of the sea.
Let all the earth fear the Lord,
all who live in the world revere him.
He spoke; and it came to be.
He commanded; it sprang into being.
Glory to the Father….
Word of God. Deuteronomy 31:12-13a
Assemble the people—men, women and children, as well as the aliens who live in your communities—that they may hear it and learn it, and so fear the Lord, your God, and carefully observe all the words of this law. Their children also, who do not know it yet, must hear it and learn it, that they too may fear the Lord, your God.
This gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the world as a witness to all nations. (Mt 24:14)
Canticle of Zechariah
Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. (Mk 16:15)
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty savior,
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old
that he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called the prophet
of the Most High;
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness
and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glory to the Father…

O God of every nation, you sent Saints Cyril and Methodius to proclaim the Good News of salvation to the Slavic nations. Through their intercession, preserve in faith those whom they and their heirs have instructed, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
