PRAYER FOR THIS MORNING (SATURDAY, AUGUST 1)

Saint Alphonsus Liguori; First Saturday of the Month

Prayer for the Morning

Jesus Christ is our Lord and Redeemer:

come, let us adore him!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN

’Tis thy good pleasure, not mine own

In thee, my God, I love alone;

And nothing I desire of thee,

But what thy goodness wills for me.

In love no rival canst thou bear,

But thou art full of tenderest care;

And fire and sweetness all divine

To hearts which once are wholly thine.

In thee all pure affections live,

To love, thou dost perfection give;

While ever burning with desires,

The loving soul to thee aspires.

Thou makest crosses soft and light,

And death itself seems sweet and bright;

No cross nor fear that soul dismays,

Whose will to thee united stays.

To thee I consecrate, I give

My heart and being while I live,

Jesus, thy heart alone shall be

My love for all eternity.

CANTICLE OF ISAIAH 33:13-16

If you love me, you will keep my commandments. (Jn 14:15)

Saint Alphonsus was a servant and teacher of the love of Jesus Christ. As he wrote in this morning’s hymn, this love requires that we take seriously the call to abandon sin and embrace the life of the Gospel without moral compromise.

Hear, you who are far off,

what I have done;

you who are near,

acknowledge my might.

On Zion sinners are in dread,

trembling grips the impious:

“Who of us can live with the consuming fire?

Who of us can live with the everlasting flames?”

He who practices virtue and speaks honestly,

who spurns what is gained by oppression,

brushing his hands

free of contact with a bribe,

stopping his ears lest he hear of bloodshed,

closing his eyes lest he look on evil.

He shall dwell on the heights,

his stronghold shall be the rocky fastness,

his food and drink

in steady supply.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (Matthew 6:22-24)

The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light; but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.

No one can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

Let love be sincere; hate what is evil,

hold on to what is good. (Rom 12:9)

CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH

This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. (1 Tm 1:15)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior,

born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old

that he would save us from our enemies,

from the hands of all who hate us.

He promised to show mercy to our fathers

and to remember his holy covenant.

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:

to set us free from the hands of our enemies,

free to worship him without fear,

holy and righteous in his sight

all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet

of the Most High;

for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

to give his people knowledge of salvation

by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness

and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father…

INTERCESSIONS

Let us pray for the wisdom and courage to live the Gospel in love.

R/Open our eyes, O Lord, to the light of your love.

You have called all people to holiness:

– make us holy in your sight. R/

You have sent us teachers to lead us in your way:

– make us wise in following their teaching. R/

You are our way, our truth, our life:

– make us courageous disciples. R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

Lord our God, you called Saint Alphonsus to serve your Church by pointing to the ways of holiness and by leading others into your service through the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, which he founded. Send us always wise and holy teachers, and guide us by their light, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THIS EVENING (FRIDAY, JULY 31)

Prayer for the Evening

Let us praise the Lord in all his saints!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN

Courageous leader in the fight,

Ignatius merits earnest praise,

Raised up by God in time of need,

In troubled and in warlike days.

Once conquered by the love of God,

He found security and peace

In working for high heaven’s King,

His greater glory to increase.

The ardor of his little band

No dangers and no threats could quell,

To vindicate the law of Christ

And error’s darkness to dispel.

The Holy Spirit’s gifts of grace

Much penance and long hours of prayer

Made him a wise and prudent guide

For souls who came beneath his care.

To every corner of the earth

His eager sons will gladly go,

To bring all nations to the Church

That Christ’s sweet message they may know.

PSALM 127

Every house is founded by someone, but the founder of all is God. (Heb 3:4)

At God’s bidding and with God’s help, Saint Ignatius founded a religious order of immense influence and peopled it with many spiritual sons. All of us are given a spiritual “house” to build, to live in, and to hand on to future generations: what will yours look like?

If the Lord does not build the house,

in vain do its builders labor;

if the Lord does not watch over the city,

in vain does the watchman keep vigil.

In vain is your earlier rising,

your going later to rest,

you who toil for the bread you eat:

when he pours gifts on his beloved while they slumber.

Truly sons are a gift from the Lord,

a blessing, the fruit of the womb.

Indeed the sons of youth

are like arrows in the hand of a warrior.

O the happiness of the man

who has filled his quiver with these arrows!

He will have no cause for shame

when he disputes with his foes in the gateways.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (1 Corinthians 3:10-11)

According to the grace of God given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building upon it. But each one must be careful how he builds upon it, for no one can lay a foundation other than the one that is there, namely, Jesus Christ.

See, I am laying a stone in Zion,/

a stone that has been tested,/

A precious cornerstone as a sure foundation;/

he who puts his faith in it shall not be shaken.

(Is 28:16)

CANTICLE OF MARY

We know that if our earthly dwelling, a tent, should be destroyed, we have a building from God, a dwelling not made with hands, eternal in heaven. (2 Cor 5:1)

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:

the Almighty has done great things for me,

and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him

in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,

he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,

and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,

and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel

for he has remembered his promise of mercy,

the promise he made to our fathers,

to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father…

INTERCESSIONS

The Scriptures paint a portrait of God as designer and builder of a home for all peoples, and of Jesus as carpenter. Through the intercession of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, let us pray:

R/Build up your house, O Lord.

You have called us to encourage one another and build one another up:

– make us skilled laborers in the art of mutual

support. R/

You have granted us different gifts for the upbuilding

of your body, the Church, in love:

– give us generous hearts for the works of mutual service. R/

You have gone before us to prepare a place for us among the many dwellings that make up your

Father’s house:

– keep us strong in hope and fidelity as we await your return in glory. R/

You have given us a vision of the great city to come:

– bring our dead to dwell with you in glory. R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

May the all-powerful God protect us from all evil and bring us to life everlasting! Amen.

Your head is like Carmel,

and the hairs of your head,

bound in tresses,

even as royal purple, alleluia.

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia ergo, advocata nostra,

illos tuos misericordes oculos

ad nos converte.

Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,

nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this our exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

PRAYER FOR THIS MORNING (FRIDAY, JULY 31)

Prayer for the Morning

Come, let us seek God with all our hearts.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN

I love you, O my Lord most high,

For first your love has captured me;

I seek no other liberty:

Bound by your love, I shall be free.

May memory no thought suggest

But shall to your pure glory tend;

May understanding find no rest,

Except in you, its only end.

All mine is yours: say but the word,

Say what you will, it shall be done;

I know your love, most gracious Lord,

I know you seek my good alone.

Apart from you, nothing can be,

So grant me this, my only wish,

To love you, Lord, eternally,

You give me all in giving this.

PSALM 119:17-24

I will place my law within them, and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be my people. (Jer 31:33)

Following Christ in obedience to God’s will discerned in prayer was central to Saint Ignatius’ spirituality. The law of the new covenant is an expression of God’s love for us. It prescribes peace, justice, and love in place of the violence, oppression, and alienation we tend to create when we fail to listen to God’s voice speaking in the depths of our heart.

Bless your servant and I shall live

and obey your word.

Open my eyes that I may see

the wonders of your law.

I am a pilgrim on the earth;

show me your commands.

My soul is ever consumed

as I long for your decrees.

You threaten the proud, the accursed,

who turn from your commands.

Relieve me from scorn and contempt

for I do your will.

Though princes sit plotting against me

I ponder on your rulings.

Your will is my delight;

your statutes are my counselors.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (Deuteronomy 30:11-14)

This command which I enjoin on you today is not too mysterious and remote for you. It is not up in the sky, that you should say, “Who will go up in the sky to get it for us and tell us of it, that we may carry it out?” Nor is it across the sea, that you should say, “Who will cross the sea to get it for us and tell us of it, that we may carry it out?” No, it is something very near to you, already in your mouths and in your hearts; you have only to carry it out.

Take to heart these words which I enjoin on you today. (Dt 6:6)

CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH

Come to me heedfully,/ listen, that you may have life. (Is 55:3)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior,

born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old

that he would save us from our enemies,

from the hands of all who hate us.

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness

and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father…

INTERCESSIONS

To God who directs all our ways toward the coming of his Kingdom, we pray through the intercession of Saint Ignatius:

R/Your word is a lamp for our steps.

Guide us, O Lord, in the way of your Word,

– that today we may follow where you lead us. R/

Guide us, O Lord, in the way of your truth,

– that today we may choose wisely among the many ideas the media present to us. R/

Guide us, O Lord, in the way of your love,

– that today we may treat those we meet as you have treated us. R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

O Lord our God, you poured forth into your Church a spirit of renewal in prayer and life through the work of Saint Ignatius and the Society of Jesus. Grant us the spirit of discernment, so that we may hear the still, small voice of your Word speaking in the depths of our heart, and, hearing, may obey. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THIS EVENING (THURSDAY, JULY 30)

Prayer for the Evening

In peace, let us pray to the Lord.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN

Joyful, joyful, we adore thee,

God of glory, Lord of love;

Hearts unfold like flowers before thee,

opening to the sun above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;

drive the dark of doubt away;

Giver of immortal gladness,

fill us with the light of day!

Thou art giving and forgiving,

ever blessing, ever blessed,

Wellspring of the joy of living,

ocean depth of happy rest!

Thou our Father, Christ our brother,

all who live in love are thine;

Teach us how to love each other,

lift us to the joy divine.

PSALM 25:14-22

Think of the commandments, hate not your neighbor;/ of the Most High’s covenant, and overlook faults. (Sir 28:7)

If the Lord rescues me from the snare of my faults, should I not extend the same hand of rescue to my neighbor? Resentment, grudges, retaliation do not help the one who offends me. They merely confirm the breach between us. Bridge-building is costly, as the cross demonstrates, but the people stranded on both banks are freed by the bridge.

The Lord’s friendship is for those who revere him;

to them he reveals his covenant.

My eyes are always on the Lord;

for he rescues my feet from the snare.

Turn to me and have mercy

for I am lonely and poor.

Relieve the anguish of my heart

and set me free from my distress.

See my affliction and my toil

and take all my sins away.

See how many are my foes;

how violent their hatred for me.

Preserve my life and rescue me.

Do not disappoint me, you are my refuge.

May innocence and uprightness protect me:

for my hope is in you, O Lord.

Redeem Israel, O God, from all its distress.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (Colossians 3:12-14)

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do. And over all these put on love, that is, the bond of perfection.

Forgive from the heart!

CANTICLE OF MARY

This is my commandment: love one another as I have loved you. (cf. Jn 13:34)

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

Glory to the Father…

INTERCESSIONS

The world is rent asunder by our refusal to forgive. In repentance we pray:

R/Lord, hear our prayer.

For peace among warring nations and peoples:

– let us pray to the Lord. R/

For reconciliation among friends and relatives divided by old resentments:

– let us pray to the Lord. R/

For freedom from the desire for revenge:

– let us pray to the Lord. R/

Our Father….

May the Lord rescue us from every evil threat and bring us safe to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen. (cf. 2 Tm 4:18)

Prayer for a friend in need

When your friend is in need, pray this prayer to ask God’s blessing upon them.

We all want the best for our friends, but sometimes we cannot help them. We may be separated by distance, or they may have a problem that we simply are unable to solve.Whatever it is, prayer is always an option, and we can ask for God’s blessing upon them. Here is a prayer adapted from a Manual of Prayers that can be said for any occasion when your friend is in need.

Preserve, O Lord, my friend(s) N. N., forwhose health, happiness, and prosperity I humbly offer up these my prayers. Give them grace to correspond to that state and condition of life in which you have placed them; direct them in all their ways; defend them against all their enemies; and remove, according to your mercy, the heavy burden of their suffering. Give them, I humbly ask you, patience in suffering, resignation to your will, and perseverance in your service. Amen.

AND TODAY WE CELEBRATE… Saint of the Day: Bl. Solanus Casey (THURSDAY, JULY 30)

“Blessed Be God in All of His Designs.” Capuchin Franciscan Priest (1870-1957)

His life

+ Bernard Francis (“Barney”) Casey was born in Oak Grove, Wisconsin. to Irish immigrants.

+ After school, Barney left the family farm to take various jobs in Minnesota, including working as a prison guard and street car operator. At this time, he considered marriage and even proposed to a girl, but the marriage wasn’t to be.

+ After witnessing a murder, Barney re-evaluated his life and its trajectory. This led him to consider the priesthood. He enrolled in the minor seminary of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, hoping to become a diocesan priest. However, classes were taught in German and Latin (neither of which he knew how to speak) and he struggled in his studies. The seminary officials encouraged him to enter a religious community, if he wanted to become a priest.

+ In 1897, he entered the Capuchin Franciscans in Detroit and received the religious name “Solanus.” He was ordained in Milwaukee in 1904 but, because of his poor academic performance, he was ordained as a “simplex priest,” meaning that he could only celebrate Mass but would not be granted faculties to hear confessions or to preach in public.

+ Father Solanus served in various friaries in New York before being assigned to St. Bonaventure’s Monastery in Detroit in 1924. He served as porter for the community until 1945, also leading prayer services for the sick. It was during this time that he developed a reputation for his hospitality and care for the poor and people spoke of miraculous cures which they attributed to his prayers.

+ Solanus loved to play the violin and sing Irish songs, but he wasn’t a particularly gifted musician and he would often take his violin to the chapel to play before the Blessed Sacrament, much to the relief of the friars who didn’t particularly appreciate his efforts.

+ In 1946, Solanus was transferred to the friars’ novitiate in Huntington, Indiana. He was suffering from ill health and was eventually sent back to Detroit in 1956. His health continued to decline until his death on July 31, 1957. More than 20,000 filed past his coffin in the days before his funeral.

+ Blessed Solanus Casey was beatified in 2017.

For prayer and reflection

“How merciful is the Good God in making us dependent upon another.”—Blessed Solanus Casey

Prayer

God, who in your providence conformed

Blessed Solanus Casey to the image of your Son

making him tireless in service to the poor,

by his intercession and example,

grant also to us the same generosity

and joy in giving of ourselves in service to our neighbor.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THIS MORNING (THURSDAY, JULY 30)

Prayer for the Morning

Here God dwells in our midst:

come, let us adore!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN

O may my soul, uncrushed by care,

Direct her gaze to where thou art,

And in thy splendor find, O Christ,

The strength of life thou can impart.

And freed from sin’s depressing load,

May I pursue the path divine,

And rise above the cares of earth

Until my life is merged in thine.

Unsullied life thy servant grant

Who tunes his harp to sound thy praise,

And still my life shall hymn thy love,

And glory to the Father raise.

And when I rest in glory bright,

The burden of my labor past,

In hymns I’ll praise thee more and more

While the eternal ages last.

PSALM 17:1-9, 15

Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (cf. Jn 14:6)

Let us turn from the paths of selfishness into the way of Christ, following him in faith and in hope toward the promised Kingdom of God.

Lord, hear a cause that is just,

pay heed to my cry.

Turn your ear to my prayer:

no deceit is on my lips.

From you may my judgement come forth.

Your eyes discern the truth.

You search my heart, you visit me by night.

You test me and you find in me no wrong.

My words are not sinful as are men’s words.

I kept from violence because of your word,

I kept my feet in your paths;

there was no faltering in my steps.

I am here and I call, you will hear me, O God.

Turn your ear to me; hear my words.

Display your great love, you whose right hand saves

your friends from those who rebel against them.

Guard me as the apple of your eye.

Hide me in the shadow of your wings

from the violent attack of the wicked.

In my justice I shall see your face

and be filled, when I awake, with the sight of your glory.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (Hebrews 11:1-2; 12:1)

Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen. Because of it the ancients were well attested.

Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us.

Hold firm and take heart./ Hope in the Lord!

(Ps 27:14)

Let us pray to the Lord who is the origin, companion, and goal of our life’s journey.

R/Stay with us, Lord.

Lord Jesus, you accompanied your doubting disciples on the road to Emmaus:

– sustain your Church in our daily journey of faith. R/

You do not disappoint those who hope in your mercy:

– remember that we are slow to believe, and strengthen our faith. R/

You guide those who walk in darkness:

– teach your paths to all those who seek the road to

life. R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

O God, you are our guide and guard along life’s paths. Lead us in the ways of justice and love, righteousness and peace, through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THIS EVENING (WEDNESDAY, JULY 29)

Prayer for the Evening

Great are the works of the Lord:

come, let us adore!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN (Meter: LM)

I know that my Redeemer lives;

What joy the blest assurance gives!

He lives, he lives, who once was dead;

He lives, my ever living Head.

He lives to silence all my fears,

He lives to wipe away my tears,

He lives to calm my troubled heart,

He lives, all blessings to impart.

He lives, all glory to his Name!

He lives, transformed yet still the same.

Oh, the bright joy this sentence gives,

I know that my Redeemer lives!

PSALM 111

Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. [But] even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.” (Jn 11:21-22)

Martha earned the title “disciple of the Lord” by her work of courageous faith in the promise of the Resurrection and in the One who made the promise. She stands now in the great assembly of the just who have been delivered from death to sing his praise for ever.

I will thank the Lord with all my heart

in the meeting of the just and their assembly.

Great are the works of the Lord;

to be pondered by all who love them.

Majestic and glorious his work,

his justice stands firm for ever.

He makes us remember his wonders.

The Lord is compassion and love.

He gives food to those who fear him;

keeps his covenant ever in mind.

He has shown his might to his people

by giving them the lands of the nations.

His works are justice and truth:

his precepts are all of them sure,

standing firm for ever and ever:

they are made in uprightness and truth.

He has sent deliverance to his people

and established his covenant for ever.

Holy his name, to be feared.

To fear the Lord is the first stage of wisdom;

all who do so prove themselves wise.

His praise shall last for ever!

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (John 5:24-25)

Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will not come to condemnation, but has passed from death to life. Amen, amen, I say to you, the hour is coming and is now here when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.

You are the Messiah, the Son of God.

(Jn 11:27)

CANTICLE OF MARY

Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live.” (Jn 11:25)

Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, lives for ever to make intercession for us. With Martha’s trust in his power to obtain whatever he asks on our behalf, let us pray:

R/You are compassion and love!

You loved Martha, Mary, and her brother Lazarus as true friends:

– send friends to the lonely, the aging, the abandoned, and the institutionalized. R/

You wept at the news of Lazarus’ death:

– console those who mourn the loss of loved ones. R/

You invited Martha to put her faith in you:

– grant the gift of faith to those for whom death is a stumbling block to belief. R/

You raised Lazarus from the dead:

– raise to glory all our beloved dead. R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

May our faith rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God! Amen. (cf. 1 Cor 2:5)

MARIAN ANTIPHON

Antiphon for the Memorial of

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, July 16,

from the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite

Your head is like Carmel,

and the hairs of your head,

bound in tresses,

even as royal purple, alleluia.

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia ergo, advocata nostra,

illos tuos misericordes oculos

ad nos converte.

Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,

nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this our exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Sleep in peace with this beautiful night prayer

Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake; watch over us as we sleep,

that awake, we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, rest in his peace.

Lord God,

send peaceful sleep

to refresh our tired bodies.

May your help always renew us

and keep us strong in your service.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

– Amen.

Watch, Lord, with those who work or wake or weep tonight.

Give the angels and saints charge over those who sleep.

O Lord Jesus Christ, tend your sick ones, rest Your weary ones, bless Your dying ones,

soothe the suffering ones, pity all the afflicted ones, shield the joyful ones, and all for

Your love’s sake. Amen.

O God, I love you with all my heart and soul, and desire to love you as the blessed do in

heaven. I adore all the designs of your divine Providence, resigning myself entirely to

your will. I also love my neighbor for your sake, as I love myself. I sincerely forgive all

who have injured me, and ask pardon of all whom I have injured. O my good Angel,

whom God, by his divine mercy, has appointed to be my guardian, enlighten and protect

me, direct and govern me this night. Amen.

Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit. You have redeemed me, O Lord God of

truth. I will sleep in peace, and take my rest.
