Prayer that your children won’t copy your mistakes

1

Ask God to assist your children to make better choices, not copying your mistakes and faults.

Prayer that your children won’t copy your mistakes is vital. Being a parent isn’t easy, knowing your children are taking after you. For one, they look up to you and imitate your every move. This can be a good thing, but many times, you probably wish they didn’t copy everything you did!

Below is a short prayer adapted from the Family Prayer Book for your children to follow your good example and not your bad mistakes.

Prayer that your children won’t copy your mistakes

Teach me, Almighty God, to set my children an example of how they should walk.

Never let them fall into sin by following any terrible habit or evil inclination they may have learned from me.

O let them not be brought to sorrow and suffering through my means: let them not incur guilt through any negligence or indulgence on my part.

From all sin, keep them, O Lord; and especially from all sin which I might have taught them to shun.

Let them live innocently and holily; let them remember the object for which their life is bestowed: let them remember the bliss which you have prepared for us all in your kingdom.

So guide and inspire them, I entreat you, that they and I may enjoy that bliss together.

Teach us to love you and one another here on earth; and, my God, may we meet again when death shall have parted us; and may we then love you and one another for ever and ever in your kingdom of holy love.

Amen.

Drive the devil away with this morning prayer

3

Start your day by engaging in a little spiritual warfare!

It is usually said that how well your morning goes will determine the outlook of your entire day. This principle is true in our spiritual life! If we allow ourselves to be captivated by a temptation early in the morning, we will be more susceptible to spiritual attacks as we go through the day. Therefore, it is essential to begin the day by declaring our love and loyalty to God, asking him to drive the devil away and his temptations. This short prayer from the Golden Manual can be added to your morning prayer, strengthening your life with the “armor of God.”

Drive the devil away with this morning prayer

O Holy Trinity, one God, defend me this day from the deceits and temptations of the devil.

Keep me from all sin, and preserve me from sudden and unprovided death.

Raise up, O God, my body from sleep and drowsiness, and my soul from sin; that I may praise and glorify thy holy name; to whom belongs all benediction, and honor, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, now and forever.

Amen.

Wake up in the light of Christ with this morning prayer

Start your day with this morning prayer of hope

Prayer for the Morning (Friday, November 19)

Prayer for the Morning

Jesus Christ leads us from death to life:

let us give thanks and praise!

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

HYMN

May flights of angels lead you on your way

To paradise, and heav’n’s eternal day!

May martyrs greet you after death’s dark night,

And bid you enter into Zion’s light!

May choirs of angels sing you to your rest

With once poor Laz’rus, now for ever blest!

PSALM 116:10-19

If he were not expecting the fallen to rise again, it would have been useless and foolish to pray for them in death. But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought. (2 Mc 12:44-45)

The Lord greatly desires to bring the souls in purgatory into full union with him in heaven, but in his wisdom has tied the communion of saints together so that we on earth must pray for the Church Suffering in purgatory. As we serve our brothers and sisters here on earth, let us never forget to pray for our brothers and sisters awaiting heaven.

I trusted, even when I said:

“I am sorely afflicted,”

and when I said in my alarm:

“No man can be trusted.”

How can I repay the Lord

for his goodness to me?

The cup of salvation I will raise;

I will call on the Lord’s name.

My vows to the Lord I will fulfill

before all his people.

O precious in the eyes of the Lord

is the death of his faithful.

Your servant, Lord, your servant am I;

you have loosened my bonds.

A thanksgiving sacrifice I make:

I will call on the Lord’s name.

My vows to the Lord I will fulfill

before all his people,

in the courts of the house of the Lord,

in your midst, O Jerusalem.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. Job 19:25-27

I know that my Vindicator lives,/ and that he will at last stand forth upon the dust;/ Whom I myself shall see:/ my own eyes, not another’s, shall behold him,/ And from my flesh I shall see God;/ my inmost being is consumed with longing.

If we have grown into union with him through a death like his, we shall also be united with him
in the resurrection. (Rom 6:5)

CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH

God raised him up, releasing him from the throes of death because it was impossible for him to be held by it. (Acts 2:24)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior,

born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old

that he would save us from our enemies,

from the hands of all who hate us.

He promised to show mercy to our fathers

and to remember his holy covenant.

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:

to set us free from the hands of our enemies,

free to worship him without fear,

holy and righteous in his sight

all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet

of the Most High;

for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

to give his people knowledge of salvation

by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness

and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father…

INTERCESSIONS

With confidence in the God who made us and who paved a way for our salvation, we pray:

R/Lord, you are our life and resurrection.

God of life eternal, we place all our hope in you:

– hear our prayers in our last hours, and bring us to heaven with you. R/

Source of all joy, consolation in sorrow:

– receive the souls of the faithful departed into your everlasting rest. R/

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,

– and may perpetual light shine upon them. R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

Father of all, who are perfectly just and perfectly merciful, remember your covenant with your children, that those souls who linger in purgatory for their purification may be swiftly drawn to perfect happiness with the saints in heaven. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for the Evening (Thursday, November 18)

Prayer for the Evening

Strong is God’s love for us;/ he is faithful for ever:

come, let us give thanks and praise! (cf. Ps 117:2)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

Hymn

O King for ever glorious,

[O Son] for sinners slain,

O Christ who died victorious

to rise and rule and reign:

the hosts on high enthrone you

at God the Father’s hand;

and wide, to those who own you,

the gates of heaven stand.

In mercy, Lord, behold us,

our God to whom we pray;

let Jesus’ love enfold us

against that final day;

no tale of sin confound us

before the judgment throne;

his righteousness surround us,

who trust in God alone.

Psalm 37:23-29

How shall the young remain sinless?/ By obeying your word. (Ps 119:9)

If you are young, look forward to God’s fidelity to you throughout your life; if you are older, look back on God’s fidelity to you through all that is past. Whatever your age, know that God’s love is the foundation upon which all our hope stands firm.

The Lord guides the steps of a man

and makes safe the path of one he loves.

Though he stumble he shall never fall

for the Lord holds him by the hand.

I was young and now I am old,

but I have never seen the just man forsaken

nor his children begging for bread.

All the day he is generous and lends

and his children become a blessing.

Then turn away from evil and do good

and you shall have a home for ever;

for the Lord loves justice

and will never forsake his friends.

The unjust shall be wiped out for ever

and the children of the wicked destroyed.

The just shall inherit the land;

there they shall live for ever.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. Deuteronomy 7:9

Understand, then, that the Lord, your God, is God indeed, the faithful God who keeps his merciful covenant down to the thousandth generation toward those who love him and keep his commandments.

Faithful is God, faithful and true!

Canticle of Mary

I will ever praise your name/ and be constant in my prayers to you. (Sir 51:11)

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:

the Almighty has done great things for me,

and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him

in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,

[he] has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,

and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,

and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel

for he has remembered his promise of mercy,

the promise he made to our fathers,

to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father…

Intercessions

Lord Jesus, you died and rose in fulfillment of God’s promise of life to all people. Remember all your people as we pray:

R/Come to us, O risen Savior!

You are the faithful physician of our bodies and our souls:

– grant relief to the sick and aging who suffer. R/

You are the faithful help of all the oppressed:

– sustain those who suffer injustice or failure. R/

You are the faithful companion of those who are alone:

A Night prayer to Our Blessed Mother

A Night Prayer (A Prayer of St. Padre Pio)

Prayer for the Morning (Thursday, November 18)

The Dedication of the Basilicas of Saints Peter and Paul; Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne

Prayer for the Morning

Let us cry out to the Lord our God:

in mercy, he will hear us!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

Hymn

Firm through the endless years,

Your kingdom stands secure,

And your dominion evermore

Through ages shall endure.

For, from the Paraclete,

O Word, you came to earth

And, Christ our God, you humbly stooped

To share our lowly birth.

You came as Light from Light

Within our world to shine,

And brought into the darkest heart

The hope of light divine.

O Savior, God most high,

Incarnate Word of Light,

Be merciful and save us all

From sin’s eternal night.

Psalm 33:1-9

My word shall not return to me void,/ but shall do my will. (cf. Is 55:11)

The Word of God gathers up our many words into one song of praise and petition. In him and through him and with him, we offer our humble prayer.

Ring out your joy to the Lord, O you just;

for praise is fitting for loyal hearts.

Give thanks to the Lord upon the lyre,

with a ten-stringed harp sing him songs.

O sing him a song that is new,

play loudly, with all your skill.

For the word of the Lord is faithful

and all his works to be trusted.

The Lord loves justice and right

and fills the earth with his love.

By his word the heavens were made,

by the breath of his mouth all the stars.

He collects the waves of the ocean;

he stores up the depths of the sea.

Let all the earth fear the Lord,

all who live in the world revere him.

He spoke; and it came to be.

He commanded; it sprang into being.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. 2 Corinthians 1:18-20

As God is faithful, our word to you is not “yes” and “no.” For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was proclaimed to you by us, Silvanus and Timothy and me, was not “yes” and “no,” but “yes” has been in him. For however many are the promises of God, their Yes is in him; therefore, the Amen from us also goes through him to God for glory.

Let your “Yes” mean “Yes,” and your “No” mean “No.” Anything more is from the evil one. (Mt 5:37)

Canticle of Zechariah

What came to be through him was life,/ and this life was the light of the human race. (Jn 1:3-4)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior,

born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old

and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father…

Intercessions

To God, whose gift to us is the Word of life, we pray:

R/Your Word, O Lord, is spirit and life!

For the Word of creation, we praise you, O God:

– teach us to reverence all that your Word has brought into being. R/

For the Word of salvation, we praise you, O God:

– teach us to work for the salvation of all whom you will to save. R/

For the Word of life, we praise you, O God:

– teach us to live according to your word. R/

Personal intentions

Our Father….

God our Father, you have spoken into the chaos of sin the one all-powerful Word of salvation, your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Teach us to put our faith in the constancy of your Word and not in the multiplication of our words, through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the Evening (Wednesday, November 17)

Prayer for the Evening

God is full of love to all who call:

let us give thanks and praise!

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

Hymn

“Take up your cross,” the Savior said,

“If you would my disciple be;

Deny yourself, the world forsake,

And humbly follow after me.”

Take up your cross, let not its weight

Fill your weak spirit with alarm;

His strength shall bear your spirit up,

And brace your heart and nerve your arm.

Take up your cross, nor heed the shame,

Nor let your foolish pride rebel;

Your Lord for you the cross endured,

And saved your soul from death and hell.

Take up your cross and follow Christ,

Nor think till death to lay it down;

For only those who bear the cross

May hope to wear the glorious crown.

PSALM 86:1-6

You know the gracious act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that for your sake he became poor although he was rich, so that by his poverty you might become rich. (2 Cor 8:9)

Once free of family responsibilities, Saint Elizabeth chose to become poor with the poor despite opposition and persecution. In their name she prayed; to their needs she devoted all her energies and possessions; in their presence she found joy in the Lord whom she loved.

Turn your ear, O Lord, and give answer

for I am poor and needy.

Preserve my life, for I am faithful:

save the servant who trusts in you.

You are my God, have mercy on me, Lord,

for I cry to you all the day long.

Give joy to your servant, O Lord,

for to you I lift up my soul.

O Lord, you are good and forgiving,

full of love to all who call.

Give heed, O Lord, to my prayer

and attend to the sound of my voice.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. Luke 12:33-34

Sell your belongings and give alms. Provide money bags for yourselves that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven that no thief can reach nor moth destroy. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

For, in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom
of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you. (2 Pt 1:11)

Prayer for the Morning

Come, let us worship the Lord alone!

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

Hymn

A valiant woman, strong by grace,

Unites us all in praise this day,

The glory of her holiness

Sheds far and wide its sacred ray.

Her heart aglow with holy love,

The glamour of this earth she spurned,

And chose the hard and narrow way

To reach the home for which she yearned.

By fasts and prayer she overcame

Our fallen nature’s downward trend,

She fed her soul with constant prayer

That heavenwards her mind should tend.

All glory, Jesus, be to you,

For through your holy handmaid’s love,

You give us hope for our reward

And everlasting joy above.

Psalm 16:1-6

If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to [the] poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me. (Mt 19:21)

Saint Elizabeth found her one treasure not in her aristocratic heritage or wealth but in Jesus Christ, whom she found and loved in her family and in the poor.

Preserve me, God, I take refuge in you.

I say to the Lord: “You are my God.

My happiness lies in you alone.”

He has put into my heart a marvelous love

for the faithful ones who dwell in his land.

Those who choose other gods increase their sorrows.

Never will I offer their offerings of blood.

Never will I take their name upon my lips.

O Lord, it is you who are my portion and cup;

it is you yourself who are my prize.

The lot marked out for me is my delight:

welcome indeed the heritage that falls to me!

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. Matthew 19:23-26

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Amen, I say to you, it will be hard for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and said, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “For human beings this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”

Blessed are you who are poor,/

for the kingdom of God is yours. (Lk 6:20)

O Christ, Saint Elizabeth gave up all material goods and honor for your sake. Through her intercession we pray:

R/Our happiness lies in you alone!

For those wealthy in goods and prestige:

– grant them freedom of heart to devote all they have to your service. R/

For those who have been seduced by the desire for money or social position:

– let them see the bounty of the Gospel. R/

For those who have left all things to follow you:

– keep them faithful in their desire to seek and to serve you. R/

Personal intentions

Our Father….

O God of all good, you gave Saint Elizabeth the true wealth of holiness. Through her example and intercession, grant us the freedom that comes from renunciation of self, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the Evening

Hymn

The King of love my Shepherd is,

Whose goodness fails me never,

I nothing lack if I am his

And he is mine forever.

Where streams of living water flow

With gentle care he leads me,

And where the verdant pastures grow,

With heavenly food he feeds me.

Perverse and foolish I have strayed

But yet in love he sought me,

And on his shoulder gently laid,

And home, rejoicing, brought me.

Psalm 119:169-176

The Son of Man has come to seek and to save what was lost. (Lk 19:10)

Having wandered from any true sense of a spiritual home and any real sense of direction, many are lost, and they hunger hopelessly for they know not what. God, however, is a tireless seeker.

Lord, let my cry come before you:

teach me by your word.

Let my pleading come before you;

save me by your promise.

Let my lips proclaim your praise

because you teach me your commands.

Let my tongue sing your promise

for your commands are just.

Let your hand be ready to help me,

since I have chosen your precepts.

Lord, I long for your saving help

and your law is my delight.

Give life to my soul that I may praise you.

Let your decrees give me help.

I am lost like a sheep; seek your servants

for I remember your commands.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. Luke 15:4-6

What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it? And when he does find it, he sets it on his shoulders with great joy and, upon his arrival home, he calls together his friends and neighbors and says to them, “Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.”

I will rescue my people from the land of the rising sun, and from the land of the setting sun. (Zec 8:7)

Canticle of Mary

Those whom the Lord has ransomed will return/ and enter Zion singing,/ crowned with everlasting joy. (Is 35:10)

Rejoice, O Mother of God, O Virgin Immaculate;

[rejoice], you who received joy from an angel;

rejoice, you who bore the glory of the light everlasting;

[rejoice], O Mother, rejoice,

O holy Virgin Mother of God;

you alone a maiden Mother,

all creation praises you, the Mother of light;

may you be for us, we beseech you,

a perpetual intercessor.

SALVE REGINA

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia ergo, advocata nostra,

illos tuos misericordes oculos

ad nos converte.

Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,

nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

HAIL HOLY QUEEN

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this our exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

ALMA REDEMPTORIS MATER

Alma Redemptoris Mater, quae pervia caeli

porta manes, et stella maris, succurre cadenti,

surgere qui curat, populo: tu quae genuisti,

natura mirante, tuum sanctum Genitorem,

Virgo prius ac posterius, Gabrielis ab ore

sumens illud Ave, peccatorum miserere.

LOVING MOTHER OF THE REDEEMER

Loving mother of the Redeemer,

gate of heaven, star of the sea,

assist your people who have fallen yet strive

to rise again.

To the wonderment of nature you bore your Creator,

yet remained a virgin after as before.

You who received Gabriel’s joyful greeting,

have pity on us, poor sinners.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Healing Novena to Christ the Great Physician

0

Say this healing Novena to Christ the great physician.

Repeat the following Healing Novena prayers every day for 9 consecutive days.

We know that there is one physician:

Both flesh and spirit

uncreated, yet born,

God in man,

True life in death,

From both Mary and From God,

Subject to suffering and then impassible,

Jesus Christ our Lord!

From You, of both flesh and spirit,

We ask O Great Physician,

for spiritual, physical, and emotional healing,

especially my intention of ______.

May we spend all of our days

in Your healing presence,

Of You the eternal Son born for us.

Grant us the healing benefits

of Your Incarnation, Death, and Resurrection,

From You who are true God and true man.

Grant us Your true life in the midst of death,

From You, the true life in death.

Grant us to follow Your example

and that of your Blessed Mother,

From You, from both Mary and from God.

May our suffering be for our growth;

free us, we pray, from that which we cannot bear.

We ask You, O God the Word who became man to suffer.

We ask You to grant us this healing

if it brings us closer to You,

Jesus Christ our Lord!

Prayer for the Morning (Tuesday, November 16)

Saint Margaret of Scotland; Saint Gertrude

Prayer for the Morning

Christ is our light: come, let us adore!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

Hymn

Rise, O glorious orb of day,

Draw the curtains from the sky;

Let your light in glad array,

All creation beautify;

Bid the fears of darkness born,

Melt before the light of morn.

Light transcendent! fill the skies,

Glorious orb of heav’nly light!

Take the darkness from our eyes,

Fill our souls with visions bright.

Jesus, Light of lights, appear,

Rise upon our souls with cheer.

From your throne of splendor bright,

Shed your glory far abroad;

Let the wanderers in their plight

See the path that leads to God,

And upon their pathway shine,

Heav’nly orb of light divine.

There no sun illumes the day,

Where the wanderers find their rest;

Moon nor stars their light display

In the kingdom of the blest;

For the Christ himself is Sun,

And the day is never done.

Psalm 30:3-6, 11-13

For you who fear my name, there will arise/ the sun of justice with its healing rays. (Mal 3:20)

At the end of a long night of sleeplessness or suffering, sunrise brings joy and hope for the day to come. At the end of the long night of death and sin, the rising of Christ, the Sun of Justice, brings joy and hope for the life to come. In the light of the Resurrection, we see and live anew, knowing that all is in and from God’s hand, returning all to him with thanks and praise.

O Lord, I cried to you for help

and you, my God, have healed me.

O Lord, you have raised my soul from the dead,

restored me to life from those who sink into the grave.

Sing psalms to the Lord, you who love him,

give thanks to his holy name.

His anger lasts a moment; his favor through life.

At night there are tears, but joy comes with dawn.

The Lord listened and had pity.

The Lord came to my help.

For me you have changed my mourning into dancing,

you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy.

So my soul sings psalms to you unceasingly.

O Lord my God, I will thank you for ever.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. Malachi 1:11

From the rising of the sun, even to its setting,/ my name is great among the nations;/ And everywhere they bring sacrifice to my name,/ and a pure offering;/ For great is my name among the nations,/ says the Lord of hosts.

Those in the west shall fear the name of the Lord,/

and those in the east, his glory. (Is 59:19a)

Canticle of Zechariah

The daybreak from on high will visit us! (Lk 1:78)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet

of the Most High;

for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

to give his people knowledge of salvation

by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness

and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father…
