Prayer for the Morning (Tuesday, November 2)

Today Marks the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day). Our prayer the Morning is For all the dead whom we have loved in this life, God grant them eternal rest. Amen

Prayer for the Morning

Let us give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,/

for his mercy endures forever!

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

HYMN

Remember those, O Lord,

Who in your peace has died,

Yet may not gain love’s high reward

Till love is purified.

With you, they faced death’s night

Sealed with your victory sign;

Soon may the splendor of your light

On them for ever shine!

Sweet is their pain, yet deep,

Till perfect love is born;

Their lone night-watch they gladly keep

Before your radiant morn!

For them we humbly pray:

Perfect them in your love!

O may we share eternal day

With them in heaven above!

PSALM 142

Again, [amen,] I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. (Mt 18:19)

The commemoration of All Souls is rooted in the Church’s strong conviction that we, the living, have a serious responsibility in charity to pray for those who have died but who must yet complete the purification every human being needs to be able to enjoy the vision of God.

With all my voice I cry to the Lord,

with all my voice I entreat the Lord.

I pour out my trouble before him;

I tell him all my distress

while my spirit faints within me.

But you, O Lord, know my path.

On the way where I shall walk

they have hidden a snare to entrap me.

Look on my right and see:

there is not one who takes my part.

I have no means of escape,

not one who cares for my soul.

I cry to you, O Lord.

I have said: “You are my refuge,

all I have left in the land of the living.”

Listen, then, to my cry

for I am in the depths of distress.

Rescue me from those who pursue me

for they are stronger than I.

Bring my soul out of this prison

and then I shall praise your name.

Around me the just will assemble

because of your goodness to me.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (2 Maccabees 12:44-45)

If he were not expecting the fallen to rise again, it would have been useless and foolish to pray for them in death. But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought.

Pray without ceasing. (1 Thes 5:17)

Canticle of Zechariah

The fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful. (Jas 5:16)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior,

born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old

that he would save us from our enemies,

from the hands of all who hate us.

He promised to show mercy to our fathers

and to remember his holy covenant.

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:

to set us free from the hands of our enemies,

free to worship him without fear,

holy and righteous in his sight

all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet

of the Most High;

for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

to give his people knowledge of salvation

by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness

and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father…

Intercessions

God is a God of the living. With confidence, we pray:

R/Raise them up, O Lord!

For all the dead whom we have loved in life: R/

[For] all the dead of our parish: R/

For all the dead among those who have harmed us: R/

[For] all the dead whom no one remembers in prayer: R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

O God, in the Death of your only Son, you gave life to the world. Raise up in joy all those who have died through the mercy you have shown us in Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

A Prayer for those suffering in Purgatory

A Prayer for a Deceased Father or Mother

0

The death of a loved one generally can be a shocking experience. Sometimes, time neither erases nor heals the pain from this experience. We turn to God to heal us and also trust that they are in heaven with God. ‘A prayer for a deceased Father or Mother’ is a good place to start.

Prayer for a Deceased Father or Mother

O God, Who has commanded us to honor our father and mother,

have compassion in Thy mercy, on the souls of my father and mother;

forgive them their sins, and grant that I may see them in the joy of eternal brightness.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Say this powerful prayer in front of a crucifix

0

This Powerful prayer in front of a crucifix, can stir within your soul a great love of God.

For many Christians, the presence of a crucifix in the home is a constant reminder of the great love of God for humanity. It is seen by everyone in the home and brings to mind those fateful events so long ago. When it seems like we are being forgetful of God’s presence; say this powerful prayer in front of a crucifix.

Besides being a silent reminder, the crucifix can also be a focal point of daily prayer. We can use the crucifix to direct attention to God, allowing everything else to fade in the background.

One way to do this is to pray this traditional prayer before a crucifix. It is a beautiful prayer that can stir within your heart a great love for God, recognizing the boundless love he has for each one of us.

Here is the Prayer

Behold, O good and sweetest Jesus, I cast myself upon my knees in Thy sight, and with the most fervent desire of my soul, I pray and beseech Thee to impress upon my heart lively sentiments of faith, hope, and charity, with true repentance for my sins and a most firm desire of amendment: whilst with deep affection and grief of soul, I consider within myself and mentally contemplate Thy five most precious Wounds, having before mine eyes that which David, the prophet, long ago spoke in Thine Own person concerning Thee, my Jesus: They have pierced My hands and My feet, they have numbered all My bones.

Prayer for the Evening (Monday, November 1)

Prayer for the Evening

Our prayer for the evening is for may us, people on earth to do the works of justice and holiness in every walk of life.

Let us thank the Lord with all our hearts

in the meeting of the just and their assembly!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN

God, we praise you! [God], we bless you!

God, we name you sovereign Lord!

Mighty King whom angels worship,

Father, by your church, adored:

All creation shows your glory,

Heaven and earth draw near your throne,

Singing Holy, Holy, Holy,

Lord of hosts and God alone.

True apostles, faithful prophets,

Saints who set the world ablaze,

Martyrs, once unknown, unheeded,

Join one growing song of praise,

While your Church on earth confesses

One majestic Trinity:

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,

God, our hope eternally.

PSALM 111

Who, then, is the faithful and prudent servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household to distribute to them their food at the proper time? (Mt 24:45)

“Justice” and “truth” are abstract words. When we remember the upright, just, and truthful people of our tradition and our own acquaintance, the words acquire faces. God does great works through the wise and the holy, for the nourishment of a world hungry for compassion and love.

I will thank the Lord with all my heart

in the meeting of the just and their assembly.

Great are the works of the Lord;

to be pondered by all who love them.

Majestic and glorious his work,

his justice stands firm forever.

He makes us remember his wonders.

The Lord is compassionate and loving.

He gives food to those who fear him;

keeps his covenant ever in mind.

He has shown his might to his people

by giving them the lands of the nations.

His works are justice and truth:

his precepts are all of them sure,

standing firm forever and ever:

they are made in uprightness and truth.

He has sent deliverance to his people

and established his covenant forever.

Holy his name, to be feared.

To fear the Lord is the first stage of wisdom;

all who do so prove themselves wise.

His praise shall last forever!

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (Micah 6:8)

You have been told, O man, what is good,/ and what the Lord requires of you:/ Only to do right and to love goodness,/ and to walk humbly with your God.

Walk on the way of duty,/ along the paths of justice! (cf. Prv 8:20)

Te Deum

On the way of wisdom, I direct you,/ I lead you on straightforward paths. (Prv 4:11)

You are God: we praise you;

[You] are the Lord: we acclaim you;

You are the eternal Father:

All creation worships you.

To you all angels, all the powers of heaven,

Cherubim and Seraphim, sing in endless praise:

Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might,

heaven and earth are full of your glory.

The glorious company of apostles praises you.

The noble fellowship of prophets praises you.

The white-robed army of martyrs praises you.

Throughout the world the holy Church acclaims you:

Father, of majesty unbounded,

your true and only Son, worthy of all worship,

and the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide.

You, Christ, are the king of glory,

the eternal Son of the Father.

When you became man to set us free

you did not spurn the Virgin’s womb.

You overcame the sting of death,

and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers.

You are seated at God’s right hand in glory.

We believe that you will come, and be our judge.

Come then, Lord, and help your people,

bought with the price of your own blood,

and bring us with your saints

to glory everlasting.

Intercessions

To the all-holy God, let us pray through the intercession of all the saints:

R/Great are your works, O Lord!

Your justice stands firm forever:

– may your people do the works of justice and holiness in every walk of life. R/

You are compassion and love:

– may your people bring your life-giving love to all nations. R/

You give food to those who fear you and to all the hungry:

– may we, your people, share what we have with those who have not. R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

May the eyes of our hearts be enlightened, that we may know what is the hope that belongs to the Lord’s call, what are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones. Amen. (cf. Eph 1:18)

Marian Antiphon

Rejoice, O Mother of God, O Virgin Immaculate;

[rejoice], you who received joy from an angel;

rejoice, you who bore the glory of the light everlasting;

[rejoice], O Mother, rejoice,

O holy Virgin Mother of God;

you alone a maiden Mother,

all creation praises you, the Mother of light;

may you be for us, we beseech you,

a perpetual intercessor.

SALVE REGINA

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia ergo, advocata nostra,

illos tuos misericordes oculos

ad nos converte.

Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,

nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

HAIL HOLY QUEEN

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this our exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Alma Redemptoris Mater

Alma Redemptoris Mater, quae pervia caeli

porta manes, et stella maris, succurre cadenti,

surgere qui curat, populo: tu quae genuisti,

natura mirante, tuum sanctum Genitorem,

Virgo prius ac posterius, Gabrielis ab ore

sumens illud Ave, peccatorum miserere.

Loving mother of the Redeemer

Loving mother of the Redeemer,

gate of heaven, star of the sea,

assist your people who have fallen yet strive

to rise again.

To the wonderment of nature, you bore your Creator,

yet remained a virgin after as before.

You who received Gabriel’s joyful greeting,

have pity on us, poor sinners.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Evening Prayer for 22nd June, 2021

Prayer for the Evening (Sunday, October 31)

May I use a regular bottle for storing holy water?

0

May I use a regular bottle for storing holy water?

Question:

May I use a regular bottle for storing holy water?

Answer:

There is no rule about what kind of bottle to be used to store Holy Water; the only thing that matters is the bottle’s cleanliness. Also, for the sacramental to be used reverently and prayerfully. Sometimes an ordinary container can be more fitting than a cheap plastic bottle with ‘holy water’ written on it.

There are only rules when it comes to liturgical celebrations. Parishes use sprinklers and special vessels for storage, but those are not for domestic use. You could also buy a small Holy Water font for your doorway so it will be easy to bless yourself and your children.

Remember to use a simple prayer, like this one below:

“By this holy water and by thy precious Blood, wash away my sins, oh Lord.”

“From long experience, I have learned that there is nothing like holy water to put devils to flight and prevent them from coming back again. They also flee from the Cross, but return; so holy water must have great virtue. For my own part, whenever I take it, my soul feels a particular and most notable consolation.”

St. Teresa of Avila

The Solemnity of All Saints

The Solemnity of All Saints (Monday, November 1)

The earliest certain observance of a feast in honor of all the saints is an early fourth-century commemoration of “all the martyrs.” In the early seventh century, after successive waves of invaders plundered the catacombs, Pope Boniface IV gathered up some 28 wagon-loads of bones and reinterred them beneath the Pantheon, a Roman temple dedicated to all the gods. The pope rededicated the shrine as a Christian church. According to Venerable Bede, the pope intended “that the memory of all the saints might in the future be honored in the place which had formerly been dedicated to the worship not of gods but of demons” (On the Calculation of Time).

But the rededication of the Pantheon, like the earlier commemoration of all the martyrs, occurred in May. Many Eastern Churches still honor all the saints in the spring, either during the Easter season or immediately after Pentecost.

How the Western Church came to celebrate this feast, now recognized as a solemnity, in November is a puzzle to historians. The Anglo-Saxon theologian Alcuin observed the feast on November 1 in 800, as did his friend Arno, Bishop of Salzburg. Rome finally adopted that date in the ninth century.

For prayer reflection

This feast first honored martyrs. Later, when Christians were free to worship according to their consciences, the Church acknowledged other paths to sanctity. In the early centuries, the only criterion was popular acclaim, even when the bishop’s approval became the final step in placing a commemoration on the calendar. The first papal canonization occurred in 993; the lengthy process now required to prove extraordinary sanctity took form in the last 500 years. Today’s feast honors the obscure as well as the famous—the saints each of us have known.

“There is a communion of saint witnessing to the risen Christ that reaches to the far ends of the world and even farther. It embraces people from long ago and far away. It is that immense community of men and women who through words and deeds have proclaimed and are proclaiming the Lordship of Jesus.”—Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey

Prayer

Almighty ever-living God,

by whose gifts we venerate in one celebration

the merits of all the Saints,

bestow on us, we pray,

through the prayers of so many intercessors,

an abundance of reconciliation with you

for which we earnestly long

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, forever and ever. Amen.

What is the difference between talking to a saint and talking to a ghost?

Prayer for the Morning (Monday, November 1)

Prayer for the Morning on The Solemnity of All Saints

In the light of Christ, we see the light of holiness:

with all the saints, let us adore!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

Hymn

Holy, Holy, Holy! all the saints adore thee,

Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;

Cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,

Who were and are and evermore shall be!

Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!

All thy works shall praise thy name, in the earth, and sky, and sea;

Holy, Holy, Holy! merciful and mighty!

God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity.

PSALM 19:8-11

Speak to the whole Israelite community and tell them: Be holy, for I, the Lord, your God, am holy. (Lv 19:2)

All holiness flows from God’s holiness. Jesus Christ, God’s Only Begotten Son, is the wealth of his house; the Spirit pouring out upon the world through his Death and Resurrection is the stream of God’s delight and the source of life. These gifts of God’s love are what make human beings holy.

The law of the Lord is perfect,

it revives the soul.

The rule of the Lord is to be trusted,

it gives wisdom to the simple.

The precepts of the Lord are right,

they gladden the heart.

The command of the Lord is clear,

it gives light to the eyes.

The fear of the Lord is holy,

abiding forever.

The decrees of the Lord are truth

and all of them just.

They are more to be desired than gold,

then the purest of gold,

and sweeter are they than honey,

than honey from the comb.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (Ephesians 1:18-20)

May the eyes of [your] hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call, what are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones, and what is the surpassing greatness of his power for us who believe, in accord with the exercise of his great might, which he worked in Christ, raising him from the dead and seating him at his right hand in the heavens.

The holy ones of the Most High shall receive

the kingship, to possess it forever and ever. (Dn 7:18)

Canticle of Zechariah

Since I, the Lord, brought you up from the land of Egypt that I might be your God, you shall be holy, because I am holy. (Lv 11:45)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior,

born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets, he promised of old

that he would save us from our enemies,

from the hands of all who hate us.

He promised to show mercy to our fathers

and to remember his holy covenant.

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:

to set us free from the hands of our enemies,

free to worship him without fear,

holy and righteous in his sight

all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet

of the Most High;

for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

to give his people knowledge of salvation

by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness

and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father…

Intercessions

To God the Father of love, we pray:

R/You are holy, O Lord; make us holy!

You have given us the gift of your love and your truth in Jesus Christ:

– show us in him the way to holiness. R/

You have given us shelter in your house:

– teach us to dwell with one another in mutual love and peace. R/

You have fed us with the finest wheat and given us the cup of life to drink:

– transform us into the one holy Body of Jesus Christ through our participation in the Eucharist. R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

O God, you have given us your only Son as the source and measure of all holiness. Through the intercession and example of all the saints, whose memory we honor today, teach us to live as the holy people whom you have called into being in him, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THIS MORNING (SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1)

According to John Paul II, this virtue is the foundation of Mary’s holiness

3 Habits of Saints you need to learn now

A Prayer for those suffering in Purgatory

0

The Church dedicates November to the holy souls in purgatory. She encourages the faithful to offer prayers, indulgences, works of penance, and/or almsgiving for these suffering souls who cannot help themselves. A Prayer for those suffering in Purgatory is a great place to start.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches:

“All who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death, they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven.” (CCC 1030)

“This teaching is also based on the practice of prayer for the dead, already mentioned in Sacred Scripture: ‘Therefore Judas Maccabeus] made atonement for the dead, that they might be delivered from their sin.’” (CCC 1032)

“From the beginning, the Church has honored the memory of the dead and offered prayers in suffrage for themabove all the Eucharistic sacrifice, so that, thus purified, they may attain the beatific vision of God. The Church also commends almsgiving, indulgences, and works of penance undertaken on behalf of the dead:

“Let us help and commemorate them. If Job’s sons were purified by their father’s sacrifice, why would we doubt that our offerings for the dead bring them some consolation? Let us not hesitate to help those who have died and to offer our prayers for them.” (CCC 1032)

A Prayer for those suffering in Purgatory

I adore Thee,

O most Precious Cross,

which has been adorned with the tender,

delicate and venerable Hands and Feet

of our dear Lord Jesus Christ,

and imbued with His Precious Blood.

I again adore Thee,

O Holy Cross,

for love of my Lord and God,

Jesus Christ.

The King of glory passes on his way.

Canticle of the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12)

The holy ones of the Most High shall receive the kingship, to possess it for ever and ever. (Dn 7:18)

Saint Gregory of Nyssa says that just as an artist describes what makes a beautiful face, so Christ, the artist, describes in the Beatitudes what makes true human beauty. In this canticle, read as the Gospel tomorrow, we see the portrait of redeemed humanity made up of all the saints, named and unnamed.

Blessed are the poor in spirit,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,

for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,

for they will inherit the land.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst

for righteousness,

for they will be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,

for they will be shown mercy.

Blessed are the clean of heart,

for they will see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,

for they will be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake

of righteousness,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you

and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because

of me.

Rejoice and be glad,

for your reward will be great in heaven.

Word of God (Romans 8:28-30)

We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined he also called; and those he called he also justified; and those he justified he also glorified.

Who [indeed] is the victor over the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (1 Jn 5:5)

Te Deum

You are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own.” (1 Pt 2:9)

You are God: we praise you;

You are the Lord: we acclaim you;

R/Grant your blessing, O Lord!

Enrich the poor; comfort the sorrowing; feed the hungry; protect the persecuted:

– through the work of the holy ones inflamed with your divine love, R/

Protect the defenseless on this night, when the vigil of the saints is for some an occasion for violence against others:

– through the service of those who devote their lives to the protection of their neighbors, R/

Protect the gentle against the violence of those for whom the vigil of all the holy ones is an occasion for evil toward others:

– through the faith of those who seek the goodness and light known by the saints, R/

Make holy the people who bear your name:

– through the prayer and example of all those who serve you with their whole heart, R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

May the eyes of our hearts be enlightened, that we may know what is the hope that belongs to his call, what are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones. Amen. (cf. Eph 1:18)

Marian Antiphon

Antiphon for the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, October 7

Devoutly let us celebrate today’s solemnity

of the Most Holy Rosary of Mary the Mother of God, that she may intercede for us

before our Lord Jesus Christ.

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia ergo, advocata nostra,

illos tuos misericordes oculos

ad nos converte.

Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,

nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this our exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
