THE PRAYER: DEDICATION OF A FAMILY TO MARY

Do you want peace and unity in your family? Then perhaps it’s time to buckle up and revive your prayer life. Dedicate your family to Mary with this prayer below. As Catholics, togetherness should be our primary goal. We all should emulate the holy family.

THE PRAYER: DEDICATION OF A FAMILY TO MARY

Prayer to Mary

Most Blessed Virgin Mary,

Immaculate Queen and Mother,

the refuge and consolation of all troubled souls!

I kneel here before thee with my family

and choose thee for my Lady, Mother,

and Advocate with God.

I dedicate myself and all who belong to me to thy service forever.

I beg thee, O Mother of God,

to receive us into the company of thy servants.

Take us under thy protection.

Help us in life and at the hour of our death.

Mother of Mercy,

I name thee Lady and Queen of my family and relatives,

my interests and all my undertakings.

Take charge of them;

dispose of everything as it pleases thee.

Bless me and all my family.

Never let any of us offend thy Son.

In every temptation defend us;

protect us in every danger;

provide for us in the necessities of life;

counsel us in doubt;

comfort us in every sorrow,

in every sickness,

and especially in the final sorrow of death.

Never let the powers of Hell boast

that they have enslaved any of those who here consecrate themselves to thee.

Grant that we may all enter into Heaven to thank thee and,

in thy company,

to praise and love Jesus our Redeemer for all eternity.

Amen.

DEDICATION TO JESUS AND MARY

Prayer for the Morning (Monday, October 25)

Prayer for the Morning

From God and through him and in him are all things:

To him be glory for ever. (cf. Rom 11:36)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

Hymn

I sing the mighty power of God,

That made the mountains rise,

That spread the flowing seas abroad,

And built the lofty skies.

I sing the wisdom that ordained

The sun to rule the day;

The moon shines full at his command,

And all the stars obey.

I sing the goodness of the Lord,

Who filled the earth with food,

Who formed the creatures through the Word,

And then pronounced them good.

Lord, how thy wonders are displayed,

Where’er I turn my eye,

If I survey the ground I tread,

Or gaze upon the sky.

There’s not a plant or flower below,

But makes thy glories known,

And clouds arise, and tempests blow,

By order from thy throne;

While all that borrows life from thee

Is ever in thy care;

And everywhere that we can be,

Thou, God, art present there.

Psalm 148:7-14

Lord God, you have made heaven and earth by your great might, with your outstretched arm; nothing is impossible to you. (Jer 32:17)

Our glory is to mirror back in loving praise to the God who made us the beauty we glimpse dimly in all that comes from his hand.

Praise the Lord from the earth,

sea creatures and all oceans,

fire and hail, snow and mist,

stormy winds that obey his word;

all mountains and hills,

all fruit trees and cedars,

beasts, wild and tame,

reptiles and birds on the wing;

all earth’s kings and peoples,

earth’s princes and rulers;

young men and maidens,

old men together with children.

Let them praise the name of the Lord

for he alone is exalted.

The splendor of his name

reaches beyond heaven and earth.

He exalts the strength of his people.

He is the praise of all his saints,

of the sons of Israel,

of the people to whom he comes close.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. Nehemiah 9:6

It is you, O Lord, you are the only one; you made the heavens, the highest heavens and all their host, the earth and all that is upon it, the seas and all that is in them. To all of them you give life, and the heavenly hosts bow down before you.

To you be glory for ever. (cf. Rom 11:36)

Canticle of Zechariah

For us there is/ one God, the Father,/ from whom all things are and for whom we exist,/ and one Lord, Jesus Christ,/ through whom all things are and through whom we exist. (1 Cor 8:6)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior,

born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old

that he would save us from our enemies,

from the hands of all who hate us.

He promised to show mercy to our fathers

and to remember his holy covenant.

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:

to set us free from the hands of our enemies,

free to worship him without fear,

holy and righteous in his sight

all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet

of the Most High;

for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

to give his people knowledge of salvation

by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness

and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father…

Intercessions

There is one God, and we are his creation. In joy we pray:

R/Eternal glory to you, O Lord!

You alone are God:

– grant us the gifts of worship and wonder, that we may say: R/

You are the source of all life:

– grant us reverence for all that lives. R/

You are the beginning and the end of all that is:

– grant us the wisdom to live according to your purposes. R/

Personal intentions

Our Father….

O Lord our God, you have brought all things into being from Christ and in Christ and for Christ. May we live the worship we offer you in lives of love and praise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THIS MORNING (THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19)

Catholic Morning Offering Prayer

We Catholics have many practices and prayers to follow — this Catholic Morning Offering prayer is but one.

What Is the Morning Offering?

The Morning Offering is the first thing one does in the morning after waking up. It is a brief prayer that begins the day recognizing the presence of God and offering God the entirety of the day, whether it be a good or bad day.

Besides dedicating the entire day to God, the Morning Offering also thanks Him for all He has done, promises to make reparation for their sins, and offers up the sufferings of the day for the relief of the Holy Souls in Purgatory (especially through indulgences).

Morning Offering Prayer

There are many variations of the Morning Offering. The following is a traditional form that all Catholics try to make. Many memorize this prayer, or some form of it, and say it immediately upon waking.

I offer Thee all my prayers, works, and sufferings in union with the Sacred Heart of Jesus, for the intentions for which He pleads and offers Himself in the holy sacrifice of the Mass, in thanksgiving for Thy favors, in reparation for my offenses, and in humble supplication for my temporal and eternal welfare, for the wants of our holy Mother the Church, for the conversion of sinners, and for the relief of the poor souls in purgatory.

[I have] the intention to gain all the indulgences attached to the prayers I shall say and to the good works I shall perform this day. I resolve to acquire all of the indulgences I can in favor of the souls in purgatory.

Our Father

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from the evil one.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women,

and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

pray for us sinners,

now and in the hour of our death. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.

Amen.

Glory Be to the father.

Morning Offering to the Sacred Heart

7 powerful morning prayers you need to get your day started with God

Prayer for this Morning (Sunday, October 24)

Prayer for the Morning

Our God is a merciful God.

Come, let us adore him.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN

Have mercy, Son of David!

By mercy set us free.

Have mercy, Son of David!

O Lord, that we may see.

For we, like Bartimaeus,

Cry out with heart and soul.

We ask for faith to follow,

For faith to make us whole.

Have mercy, Son of David!

Give us your eyes to see

That we may see the Kingdom

In its simplicity.

May we behold the glory,

The majesty and grace

Of your mysterious beauty

Alive in every face.

PSALM 51:3-4, 8-15

Then David said…: “I am in dire straits. But I prefer to fall into the hand of the Lord, whose mercy is very great, than into the hands of men.” (1 Chr 21:13)

The mercy of God is all-seeing. His healing power cures us of our spiritual blindness so that, forgiven, like David, we may see with his eyes of mercy.

Have mercy on me, God, in your kindness.

In your compassion blot out my offense.

O wash me more and more from my guilt

and cleanse me from my sin.

Indeed you love truth in the heart;

then in the secret of my heart teach me wisdom.

O purify me, then I shall be clean;

O wash me, I shall be whiter than snow.

Make me hear rejoicing and gladness,

that the bones you have crushed may revive.

From my sins turn away your face

and blot out all my guilt.

A pure heart create for me, O God,

put a steadfast spirit within me.

Do not cast me away from your presence,

nor deprive me of your holy spirit.

Give me again the joy of your help;

with a spirit of fervor sustain me,

that I may teach transgressors your ways

and sinners may return to you.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (Titus 3:4-8)

When the kindness and generous love/ of God our savior appeared,/ not because of any righteous deeds we had done/ but because of his mercy,/ he saved us through the bath of rebirth/ and renewal by the holy Spirit,/ whom he richly poured out on us/ through Jesus Christ our savior,/ so that we might be justified by his grace/ and become heirs in hope of eternal life.

This saying is trustworthy.

Then will the eyes of the blind be opened,/

the ears of the deaf be cleared.

(Is 35:5)

Canticle of Zechariah

Out of gloom and darkness,/ the eyes of the blind shall see. (Is 29:18)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior,

born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets, he promised of old

that he would save us from our enemies,

from the hands of all who hate us.

He promised to show mercy to our fathers

and to remember his holy covenant.

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:

to set us free from the hands of our enemies,

free to worship him without fear,

holy and righteous in his sight

all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet

of the Most High;

for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

to give his people knowledge of salvation

by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness

and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father…

Intercessions

With confidence in the healing mercy of God, we pray:

R/Have mercy on us, God, in your kindness.

For the times when we have chosen our own will over love of you: R/

[F]or the times when we have been blind to your compassion: R/

For the times when we have not shown mercy to those who are under our care: R/

Personal intentions

Our Father….

Father, you revealed your Son to us so that he might show us the way to everlasting life. May we have constant recourse to the Holy Name of Jesus, and in doing so grow ever closer to you. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for this evening (Saturday, October 23)

Prayer for the Evening

Vigil of the Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The name of Jesus is a name above all names:

let us praise him.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN

There is a Name I love to hear,

I love to sing its worth;

It sounds like music in my ear,

The sweetest Name on earth.

It tells me of a Savior’s love,

Who died to set me free;

It tells me of His Precious Blood,

The sinner’s perfect plea.

It tells of One whose loving heart

Can feel my deepest woe,

Who in each sorrow bears apart,

That none can bear below.

Jesus, the Name I love so well,

The Name I love to hear:

No saint on earth its worth can tell,

Nor heart conceive how dear.

PSALM 113

Jesus, son of David, have pity on me. (Mk 10:47)

The name of the Lord is so sacred that, at the time of Jesus, it was considered too holy even to be pronounced aloud. But with the coming of Christ, we have come to know God as Father and experience the intercession of his Son. May we, like the blind man Bartimaeus, call upon the name of Jesus often, for it is in his name that we are saved.

Praise, O servants of the Lord,

praise the name of the Lord!

May the name of the Lord be blessed

both now and forevermore!

From the rising of the sun to its setting

praised be the name of the Lord!

High above all nations is the Lord,

above the heavens his glory.

Who is like the Lord, our God,

who has risen on high to his throne

yet stoops from the heights to look down,

to look down upon heaven and earth?

From the dust, he lifts up the lowly,

from his misery, he raises the poor

to set him in the company of princes,

yes, with the princes of his people.

To the childless wife, he gives a home

and gladdens her heart with children.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. Philippians 2:9-11

God greatly exalted him/ and bestowed on him the name/ that is above every name,/ that at the name of Jesus/ every knee should bend,/ of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth,/ and every tongue confess that/ Jesus Christ is Lord,/ to the glory of God the Father.

When all the nations of the earth see you bearing the name of the Lord, they will stand in awe of you.
(Dt 28:10)

Canticle of Mary

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. (Jn 12:13)

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:

the Almighty has done great things for me,

and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him

in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,

[h]e has scattered the pride in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,

and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,

and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel

for he has remembered his promise of mercy,

the promise he made to our fathers,

to Abraham and his children forever.

Glory to the Father…

Intercessions

Bartimaeus was persistent in his cries for help because he believed the Lord could heal him. Let us also be persistent in our prayers that he may also heal us. We pray:

R/Christ Jesus, hear us.

We are afflicted by the wounds of sin:

– anoint us with the balm of your love. R/

We are blind to the truth of the Gospel:

– open the eyes of our hearts. R/

We need your healing words:

– let us hear your soothing voice. R/

Personal intentions

Our Father….

May the God of peace himself make us perfectly holy and may we entirely, spirit, soul, and body, be preserved blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. (cf. 1 Thes 5:23)

Marian Antiphon

Antiphon for the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, October 7

Devoutly let us celebrate today’s solemnity

of the Most Holy Rosary of Mary the Mother of God, that she may intercede for us

before our Lord Jesus Christ.

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia ergo, advocata nostra,

illos tuos misericordes oculos

ad nos converte.

Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,

nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this our exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

PRAYER FOR THIS EVENING (FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13)

The prayer John Paul II’s dad taught him, that he prayed every dayThe prayer John Paul II’s dad taught him, that he prayed every dayThe prayer John Paul II’s dad taught him, that he prayed every day

0

St. John Paul II kept the prayer on a handwritten note and prayed it every day for the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Prior to becoming a priest, John Paul II was formed in the faith by his father at home. Looking back, John Paul II would call this time of his life “the first home seminary.” Among the many things, his dad taught him was a special prayer to the Holy Spirit.

Author Jason Evert reveals this prayer in his book Saint John Paul The Great: His Five Loves.

Karol, Sr., gave him a prayer book on the Holy Spirit, which he used throughout his life, and also taught him the following prayer and instructed him to recite it daily:

Holy Spirit, I ask you for the gift of Wisdom to better know You and Your divine perfections, for the gift of Understanding to clearly discern the spirit of the mysteries of the holy faith, for the gift of Counsel that I may live according to the principles of this faith, for the gift of Knowledge that I may look for counsel in You and that I may always find it in You, for the gift of Fortitude that no fear or earthly preoccupations would ever separate me from You, for the gift of Piety that I may always serve Your Majesty with filial love, for the gift of the Fear of the Lord that I may dread sin, which offends You, O my God.

Later on, John Paul II would go so far as to say, “this prayer resulted in a half-century later in his encyclical on the Holy Spirit, Dominum et Vivificantem.

If you are looking for an inspiring daily prayer, try the one John Paul II prayed every day!

Prayer for the Morning (Saturday, October 23)

Prayer for the Morning

Let us bow down before God’s holy temple,/

filled with awe. (cf. Ps 5:8b)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

HYMN

I lift my eyes to you, O Lord,

Until you speak your promised word;

Mine like the eyes of maids who stand

Until the mistress waves her hand.

So shall I wait upon your will,

Commands that seem of good or ill.

For even harshest words from you

Shall still prove holy, kind and true.

So Jesus listened and obeyed

When in his human will afraid.

Despised, rejected, sought and killed—

He yet attended to your will.

So may this Church which you have wrought,

And with your own blood dearly bought,

Delight to ponder and obey

The hard or gentle words you say.

Have mercy, Lord, have mercy long,

Our very weakness render strong,

Until the earth, like heav’n is filled

With sweet concordance to your will.

Psalm 119:17-24

Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to finish his work.” (Jn 4:34)

To our cost, we sometimes think that obedience to God’s will is an iron cage. On the contrary, God wills that everyone be saved: set free, made whole, brought to the joy of the Kingdom. Mary pondered and did the will of God not reluctantly, out of a sense of martyred duty, but with her whole heart, in delight.

Bless your servant and I shall live

and obey your word.

Open my eyes that I may see

the wonders of your law.

I am a pilgrim on the earth;

show me your commands.

My soul is ever consumed

as I long for your decrees.

You threaten the proud, the accursed,

who turn from your commands.

Relieve me from scorn and contempt

for I do your will.

Though princes sit plotting against me

I ponder on your rulings.

Your will is my delight;

your statutes are my counselors.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God (Leviticus 26:3-5)

If you live in accordance with my precepts and are careful to observe my commandments, I will give you rain in due season, so that the land will bear its crops, and the trees their fruit; your threshing will last till vintage time, and your vintage till the time for sowing, and you will have food to eat in abundance, so that you may dwell securely in your land.

Thy will be done!

CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH

If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. (Jn 15:10)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior,

born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old

that he would save us from our enemies,

free to worship him without fear,

holy and righteous in his sight

all the days of our life.

O God, come to our aid.

O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning,

is now, and ever shall be,

world without end.

Amen. Alleluia.

Hymn

When God made man, he gave him all the earth,

All growing things, with every bird and beast;

Then Adam named them at the Lord’s command,

Subdued the greatest of them, and the least.

In his own image God created man,

And when from dust he fashioned Adam’s face,

The likeness of his only Son was formed:

His Word incarnate, filled with truth and grace.

To God the Father and to Christ his Son

And blessed Spirit heaven and earth give praise.

Creation with tremendous voice cries out:

All holy is the mighty Lord of Days.

Stanbrook Abbey Hymnal

Psalm 40 (41)

Prayer in time of sickness

Lord, heal my soul, for I have sinned against you.

Blessed is he who takes thought for the helpless,

for the Lord will keep him safe in time of trouble.

The Lord will guard him and give him life.

He will give him good fortune on the earth,

and not betray him into the power of his enemies.

The Lord will lend him strength on his bed of pain;

you will transform all his sickness into health.

I said, “Lord, have mercy, heal my soul,

for I have sinned against you.”

My enemies spoke against me, saying: “When will he die?

When will his name perish?”

When one of them came to visit me, he talked of nothing,

but stored up wickedness in his heart.

He went out, and told tales against me.

All my enemies whispered together against me,

imagined the worst:

“A plague has taken hold of him:

he has lain down and will not rise.”

Even my dearest friend, in whom I put my trust, who had eaten my bread –

even he trampled me down.

But you, Lord – have mercy on me,

revive me, and I will pay them back.

This is how I know that I have your favour,

when my enemy cannot triumph over me,

when you raise me up because of my innocence,

and put me in your presence for all eternity.

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,

from the beginning to the end of time.

Amen! Amen!

Glory be to the Father and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning,

is now, and ever shall be,

world without end.

Amen.

Lord, heal my soul, for I have sinned against you.

Psalm 45 (46)

God, our refuge and our strength

The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.

The Lord is our refuge and our strength,

a true help in our troubles.

Therefore we do not fear,

even when the earth is shaken and mountains fall into the depths of the sea,

the waves roar and foam

and rise up to shake the mountains.

The streams of the river give joy to the city of God,

the holy dwelling-place of the Most High.

God is within it, it will not be shaken;

God will give help as the day dawns.

The nations are in turmoil and kingdoms totter:

at the sound of his voice, the earth flows like water.

The Lord of strength is with us,

the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Come and see the works of the Lord,

who has done wonders on the earth.

He puts an end to wars over all the world:

he tramples the bow, shatters weapons, and burns the shields with fire.

Stop and see that I am God:

I will be exalted among the nations, exalted on the earth.

The Lord of strength is with us,

the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning,

is now, and ever shall be,

world without end.

Amen.

The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.

Canticle (Apocalypse 15)

A hymn of adoration

All the peoples will come and adore you, Lord.

Great and wonderful are your deeds,

O Lord God the Almighty!

Just and true are your ways,

O King of the ages!

Who shall not fear and glorify your name, O Lord?

For you alone are holy.

All nations shall come and worship you,

for your judgements have been revealed.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning,

is now, and ever shall be,

world without end.

Amen.

All the peoples will come and adore you, Lord.

Short Reading Romans 15:1-3

We who are strong have a duty to put up with the qualms of the weak without thinking of ourselves. Each of us should think of his neighbours and help them to become stronger Christians. Christ did not think of himself: the words of scripture apply to him – the insults of those who insult you fall on me.

Christ loved us and has washed away our sins with his blood.

– Christ loved us and has washed away our sins with his blood.

He has made us a line of kings, priests to serve God.

– Christ loved us and has washed away our sins with his blood.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

– Christ loved us and has washed away our sins with his blood.

Canticle (Magnificat)

My soul rejoices in the Lord

The Lord has come to help us, his servants: he has remembered his mercy.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

and my spirit rejoices in God, my salvation.

For he has shown me such favour –

me, his lowly handmaiden.

Now all generations will call me blessed,

because the mighty one has done great things for me.

His name is holy,

his mercy lasts for generation after generation

for those who revere him.

He has put forth his strength:

he has scattered the proud and conceited,

torn princes from their thrones;

but lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things;

the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel,

he has remembered his mercy as he promised to our fathers,

to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning,

is now, and ever shall be,

world without end.

Amen.

The Lord has come to help us, his servants: he has remembered his mercy.

Prayers and intercessions

God is our loving Father, who cares for us and knows all our needs. With confidence we pray:

– Father, may we find rest in your love.

Christ, your Son, suffered and died for the Church;

be with all Christians who are suffering tonight.

– Father, may we find rest in your love.

Bring to the sick your comfort and healing;

strengthen them through the victory of Calvary.

– Father, may we find rest in your love.

Be near to us, almighty Father,

for you alone can save us from the evils that threaten us.

– Father, may we find rest in your love.

Strengthen us in the hour of death:

let us know your peace.

– Father, may we find rest in your love.

Bring the dead into your light:

comfort them with your presence.

– Father, may we find rest in your love.

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us,

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Lord God,

teach us the lessons of your Son’s Passion,

and so enable us, your people,

to bear the yoke he makes light for us.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

(one) God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

The Lord bless us, and keep us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life.

Amen.

PRAYER FOR THIS MORNING (SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18)

A Night Prayer (A Prayer of St. Padre Pio)

A Night prayer to Our Blessed Mother

When Padre Pio replied to John Paul II’s letter with a miracle

When Padre Pio replied to John Paul II’s letter with a miracle

In 1947, the saintly Pope had just received priestly ordination and decided to pay a visit to the famed Padre Pio, the stigmatist Capuchin friar. The Pope was impressed, and even though it was a very brief meeting, Wojtyla still did not forget, and later, he wrote him a letter asking for his prayers. This was several years later, when Carol Wojtyla was a bishop, the letter was written in Latin and was published in the book “The Making of the Pope of the Millennium.

Here’s an excerpt:

Reverend Father, I ask you to pray for a woman about 40 years old, mother of four daughters, who spent five years in a concentration camp in Germany during the war. At present, her life is threatened by a tumor. Ask God through the intercession of the Most Holy Virgin to show his mercy to this woman and her family.

The Saintly Pope did not receive a response in the form of a letter but rather from a heavenly visitation: A few days after, there was a miracle, and Wojtyla wrote back to Padre Pio expressing his great joy.:

Reverend Father, the woman from Krakow, was instantly healed on November 21 before the surgical intervention. I give thanks to God. I also thank you.

Wojtyla became a strong advocate of Padre Pio and would go on to canonize him in 2002. There was even a rumor (later denied by JPII himself) that Pio jokingly told Wojtyla he would be Pope someday.

How to Pray The Chaplet of Divine Mercy

DIVINE MERCY HOUR (3 p.m)

Do you know how to pray the chaplet of Divine Mercy? Here’s how…

1. Make the Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

2. Optional Opening Prayers

You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.

(Repeat three times)

O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!

3. Our Father

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, Amen.

4. Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

5. The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

6. The Eternal Father

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

7. On the Ten Small Beads of Each Decade

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

8. Repeat for the remaining decades

Saying the “Eternal Father” (6) on the “Our Father” bead and then 10 “For the sake of His sorrowful Passion” (7) on the following “Hail Mary” beads.

9. Conclude with Holy God (Repeat three times)

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

10. Optional Closing Prayer

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.
