Prayer for the Morning (February 25, 2022)

O Lord, open my lips and my mouth

shall declare your praise. (Ps 51:17)

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

Hymn

Have mercy, Lord, on me,

For you are ever kind;

Let me, oppressed with loads of guilt,

Your faithful mercy find.

Wash off my foul offense,

And cleanse me from my sin;

For I confess my crime, and see

How great my guilt has been.

Against you, Lord, alone

And only in your sight,

Have I transgressed; and, though condemned,

Must own your judgment right.

Blot out my crying sins,

Nor me in anger view;

Create in me a heart that’s clean,

An upright mind renew.

The joy your favor gives

Let me again obtain;

And your free Spirit’s firm support

My fainting soul sustain.

Psalm 51:3-6a, 8-9, 12-15

I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners. (Lk 5:32)

The most difficult part of ongoing conversion is admitting that we really are sinners and allowing God to see and forgive us as we are, with all our weaknesses showing, especially the ones over which we seem to have no control.

Have mercy on me, God, in your kindness.

In your compassion blot out my offense.

O wash me more and more from my guilt

and cleanse me from my sin.

My offenses truly I know them;

my sin is always before me.

Against you, you alone, have I sinned;

what is evil in your sight I have done.

Indeed you love truth in the heart;

then in the secret of my heart teach me wisdom.

O purify me, then I shall be clean;

O wash me, I shall be whiter than snow.

A pure heart create for me, O God,

put a steadfast spirit within me.

Do not cast me away from your presence,

nor deprive me of your holy spirit.

Give me again the joy of your help;

with a spirit of fervor sustain me,

that I may teach transgressors your ways

and sinners may return to you.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. 1 John 1:8-10

If we say, “We are without sin,” we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we acknowledge our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from every wrongdoing. If we say, “We have not sinned,” we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Lord, have mercy!

Canticle of Zechariah

Jesus said to them, “Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do.” (cf. Lk 5:31)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior,

born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old

that he would save us from our enemies,

from the hands of all who hate us.

He promised to show mercy to our fathers

and to remember his holy covenant.

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:

to set us free from the hands of our enemies,

free to worship him without fear,

holy and righteous in his sight

all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet

of the Most High;

for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

to give his people knowledge of salvation

by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness

and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father…

Intercessions

God knows our failings through and through, yet never turns away from us. With humble, contrite hearts, let us pray:

R/Have mercy, God, in your kindness.

When we are reluctant to own our sins as sins: R/

When we are afraid, in our sinfulness, to pray: R/

When we feel hopeless about the sinful patterns in which we are trapped: R/

When we refuse to forgive others because we cannot forgive ourselves: R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

O God of forgiveness, you sent your only Son to live and die among us in order to set us free from the merciless snares of sin and death. Forgive what we cannot forgive; heal what we dare not face; grant humility where we take refuge in false pride. Grant us singleness of heart and a steadfast spirit, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the Evening (February 24, 2022)

In peace, let us pray to the Lord.

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

Hymn

Joyful, joyful, we adore thee,

God of glory, Lord of love;

Hearts unfold like flowers before thee,

opening to the sun above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;

drive the dark of doubt away;

Giver of immortal gladness,

fill us with the light of day!

Thou art giving and forgiving,

ever blessing, ever blessed,

Wellspring of the joy of living,

ocean depth of happy rest!

Thou our Father, Christ our brother,

all who live in love are thine;

Teach us how to love each other,

lift us to the joy divine.

Psalm 25:14-22

Think of the commandments, hate not your neighbor;/ of the Most High’s covenant, and overlook faults. (Sir 28:7)

If the Lord rescues me from the snare of my faults, should I not extend the same hand of rescue to my neighbor? Resentment, grudges, retaliation do not help the one who offends me. They merely confirm the breach between us. Bridge-building is costly, as the cross demonstrates, but the people stranded on both banks are freed by the bridge.

The Lord’s friendship is for those who revere him;

to them he reveals his covenant.

My eyes are always on the Lord;

for he rescues my feet from the snare.

Turn to me and have mercy

for I am lonely and poor.

Relieve the anguish of my heart

and set me free from my distress.

See my affliction and my toil

and take all my sins away.

See how many are my foes;

how violent their hatred for me.

Preserve my life and rescue me.

Do not disappoint me, you are my refuge.

May innocence and uprightness protect me:

for my hope is in you, O Lord.

Redeem Israel, O God, from all its distress.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. Colossians 3:12-14

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do. And over all these put on love, that is, the bond of perfection.

Forgive from the heart!

Canticle of Mary

This is my commandment: love one another as I have loved you. (cf. Jn 13:34)

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:

the Almighty has done great things for me,

and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him

in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,

he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,

and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,

and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel

for he has remembered his promise of mercy,

the promise he made to our fathers,

to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father…

Intercessions

The world is rent asunder by our refusal to forgive. In repentance we pray:

R/Lord, hear our prayer.

For peace among warring nations and peoples:

– let us pray to the Lord. R/

For reconciliation among friends and relatives divided by old resentments:

– let us pray to the Lord. R/

For freedom from the desire for revenge:

– let us pray to the Lord. R/

Personal intentions

Our Father….

May the Lord rescue us from every evil threat and bring us safe to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen. (cf. 2 Tm 4:18)

Your praise, O Virgin Mary, shall not recede

from the mouths of men,

who have ever been mindful of the power of the Lord,

for whom you did not spare your life.

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia ergo, advocata nostra,

illos tuos misericordes oculos

ad nos converte.

Et Iesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,

nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this our exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Prayer for the Evening (February 23, 2022)

Let us call on the Lord’s name!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

Hymn

Rejoice, you pure in heart,

Rejoice, give thanks and sing;

Your festal banner wave on high,

The cross of Christ your King.

Bright youth and snow-crowned age,

All those for truth do seek;

Raise high your free, exulting song,

God’s wondrous praises speak.

Yes, on through life’s long path,

Still chanting as you go;

From youth to age, by night and day,

In gladness and in woe.

Then on, you pure in heart,

Rejoice, give thanks and sing;

Your glorious banner wave on high,

The cross of Christ your King.

Psalm 27:1-4

Do not be afraid of anything that you are going to suffer. (Rv 2:10)

In old age, Saint Polycarp, bishop and servant of the Gospel, refused to listen to the voice of fear. Instead, he went courageously to his death for love of Christ, in whom he lived and moved and had his being. (cf. Acts 17:28)

The Lord is my light and my help;

whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life;

before whom shall I shrink?

When evil-doers draw near

to devour my flesh,

it is they, my enemies and foes,

who stumble and fall.

Though an army encamp against me

my heart would not fear.

Though war break out against me

even then would I trust.

There is one thing I ask of the Lord,

for this I long,

to live in the house of the Lord,

all the days of my life,

to savor the sweetness of the Lord,

to behold his temple.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. 2 Timothy 4:6-8

I am already being poured out like a libation, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance.

Remain faithful until death,

and I will give you the crown of life.

(Rv 2:10)

Canticle of Mary

Even if I am poured out as a libation upon the sacrificial service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with all of you. (Phil 2:17)

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

Lord Jesus Christ, you inspire the martyrs with the courage to die for you:

Lord Jesus Christ, you sustain all those who persevere in the life of faith to the end:

– strengthen us to run the race to the finish. R/

Lord Jesus Christ, you gather into the mystery of the cross the sufferings of all those who suffer torture and death for you:

– gather into your glory all those who have died in fidelity to you. R/

Prayer for the Morning (February 18, 2022)

Prayer for the Morning

God is in our midst, a mighty savior:
come, let us adore!

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

Hymn

All who seek to know and serve God,

See the past and understand:

None who hoped were disappointed;

Rich the blessings from God’s hand!

None who waited were forsaken;

None who trusted were deceived.

All who asked his gracious pardon,

Gentle mercy have received.

If our God does not condemn us,

Who against us then will stand?

Will the Lord who died for sinners,

Who is now at God’s right hand?

What could take us from Christ Jesus?

Neither hunger, sword, nor pain!

Neither life nor death shall part us

From the Lamb for us once slain.

Psalm 39:9-14

At the time, all discipline seems a cause not for joy but for pain, yet later it brings the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who are trained by it. (Heb 12:11)

Our sins can weigh us down with discouragement. Saint Ignatius of Loyola tells us that discouragement is never from God because it clouds faith and hope. God’s love does not deal in punishment as human vengeance does. God’s love disciplines us in order to free and purify us—sometimes a painful process—so that we may not die but live in Christ.

Set me free from all my sins,

do not make me the taunt of the fool.

I was silent, not opening my lips,

because this was all your doing.

Take away your scourge from me.

I am crushed by the blows of your hand.

You punish man’s sins and correct him;

like the moth you devour all he treasures.

Mortal man is no more than a breath;

O Lord, hear my prayer.

O Lord, turn your ear to my cry.

Do not be deaf to my tears.

In your house I am a passing guest,

a pilgrim, like all my fathers.

Look away that I may breathe again

before I depart to be no more.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. Zephaniah 3:16-18

On that day, it shall be said to Jerusalem:/ Fear not, O Zion, be not discouraged!/ The Lord, your God, is in your midst,/ a mighty savior;/ He will rejoice over you with gladness,/ and renew you in his love,/ He will sing joyfully because of you,/ as one sings at festivals./ I will remove disaster from among you,/ so that none may recount your disgrace.

Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid. (Mt 14:27)

Canticle of Zechariah

My soul, give thanks to the Lord,/ all my being, bless his holy name. (Ps 103:1)

Intercessions

Mindful of God’s saving love for us, we pray:

R/Have mercy on your people, Lord.

You are the potter and we the clay:

– shape us in your image according to your will. R/

You are the shepherd and we the flock:

– seek out those who have strayed from your ways. R/

You are the host and we the guests at your table:

– feed the hungry of spirit with the bread of your loving forgiveness. R/

(Personal intentions)

Our Father….

God of mercy and compassion, you brought about the salvation of the world through the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Have mercy on us when we fail to live the new life you have given us; raise us up when our sinfulness sinks us into discouragement; grant us courage to renew our desire to live according to your will, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Confession Set Me Free

Satan uses fear to keep us in sin: How to break free

Prayer for the Morning (February 17, 2022)

Prayer for the Morning

Faithful is God, faithful and true:

let us give thanks and praise!

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

Hymn

Guide me, O thou great Redeemer,

Pilgrim through this barren land.

I am weak, but thou art mighty;

Hold me with thy powerful hand.

Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,

Feed me till I want no more.

Open now the crystal fountain,

Whence the healing stream doth flow;

Let the fire and cloudy pillar

Lead me all my journey through.

Strong Deliverer, strong Deliverer,

Be thou still my Strength and Shield.

Canticle. Isaiah 40:11, 28-31

You nourished your people with food of angels/ and furnished them bread from heaven, ready to hand, untoiled-for,/ endowed with all delights and conforming to every taste. (Wis 16:20)

The ancient Israelites in the desert failed in trust because they underestimated God’s love for them. It is astonishing how we too can doubt God’s love for us even in the face of the most dramatic evidence. Yet he does not withdraw his gifts in anger but continues to care for us in our need.

Like a shepherd he feeds his flock;

in his arms he gathers the lambs,

carrying them in his bosom,

and leading the ewes with care.

Do you not know

or have you not heard?

The Lord is the eternal God,

creator of the ends of the earth.

He does not faint nor grow weary,

and his knowledge is beyond scrutiny.

He gives strength to the fainting;

for the weak he makes vigor abound.

Though young men faint and grow weary,

and youths stagger and fall,

They that hope in the Lord will renew their strength,

they will soar as with eagles’ wings;

They will run and not grow weary,

walk and not grow faint.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. Isaiah 48:20b-21

With shouts of joy proclaim this, make it known;/ Publish it to the ends of the earth, and say,/ “The Lord has redeemed his servant Jacob./ They did not thirst/ when he led them through dry lands;/ Water from the rock he set flowing for them;/ he cleft the rock, and waters welled forth.”

How great is God’s love for us!

Canticle of Zechariah

He feeds you with finest wheat. (Ps 147:14)

Intercessions

What father would give his children stones when they asked for bread? How much more, then, will our heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him? Let us pray:

R/We put our trust in you!

You led your people through the sea dry-shod:

– let us put our trust in you as you lead us through this day’s challenges. R/

You fed your people in the desert:

– let us hear your Word of life amid the noise of our busy lives today. R/

You gave your people water from the rock:

– let us drink from the fountain of life, and not from bitter and polluted waters. R/

Personal intentions

Our Father….

O Lord our God, you sent into the midst of faithless humanity the living Bread, your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, to nourish and strengthen us on the road. Through the mystery of the cross you poured forth upon us the Spirit, the water of life. Have mercy on our lack of trust, and lead us in your ways today, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

5 Short powerful prayers given to us from Heaven

Prayer for the Morning (February 16, 2022)

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

Prayer for the Morning

Let us bless God all our lives!
Let us praise him with joy!

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

Hymn

For God, the living God, I thirst.
Like dew upon the fleece come down,
Like rain upon the desert sand,
Like light into a darkened room.

As parched earth breaks for need of rain
So my heart breaks but not in vain.
When wilt thou on my vision burst?
For thee, my living God, I thirst.

Psalm 143:5-11

Food from heaven you gave your people in their hunger,/ water from a rock you sent them in their thirst. (cf. Neh 9:15)

Without food or water, we perish in time. Without the love of God, we would perish even faster. God is present before we yearn, found before we seek, offering life-giving love before we know our need for it.

I remember the days that are past:
I ponder all your works.
I muse on what your hand has wrought
and to you I stretch out my hands.
Like a parched land my soul thirsts for you.
Lord, make haste and answer;
for my spirit fails within me.
Do not hide your face
lest I become like those in the grave.
In the morning let me know your love
for I put my trust in you.
Make me know the way I should walk:
to you I lift up my soul.
Rescue me, Lord, from my enemies;
I have fled to you for refuge.
Teach me to do your will
for you, O Lord, are my God.
Let your good spirit guide me
in ways that are level and smooth.
For your name’s sake, Lord, save my life;
in your justice save my soul from distress.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. 1 John 4:10-11

In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love one another.

We love because he first loved us. (1 Jn 4:19)

Canticle of Zechariah

I [am] the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give a gift from the spring of life-giving water. (Rv 21:6)

He has raised up for us a mighty savior,
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old
that he would save us from our enemies,

Intercessions

Jesus Christ invites us to the banquet of life, where he offers himself as real food and real drink. To him we pray:

R/For you we long!

You are the spring of life-giving water:
– refresh those who grow weary in their search for you. R/

You are the bread from heaven:
– feed those who hunger for your love. R/

You are the source of the Spirit of God’s love:

Prayer for the Morning (Monday, February 14)

Prayer for the Morning

Let all the earth fear the Lord,

all who live in the world revere him!

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

Hymn

O lovely light of fatherland!

Kind beacon to Slavonic race,

Brothers, all hail! your festival

With yearly canticle we grace.

Whom Rome applauding did receive,

As mother doth her sons embrace,

With pontiff’s miter deck your brows,

Gird with new strength, new toil to face.

To far-off barb’rous lands ye hie,

Knowledge and love of Christ to bear;

Whom error vain had long deceived,

Ye now with light replenish fair.

In hearts unfettered from the grasp

Of ill, doth heav’nly ardor glow;

Where horrid thorns the land devoured,

The flowers of holiness now grow.

All wanderers plunged in errors dark

May Christ’s one fold to union bring;

While emulous of ancestral deeds

May faith to new-born beauty spring.

Psalm 33:1-9

Tell his glory among the nations;/ among all peoples, his wondrous deeds. (1 Chr 16:24)

Saints Cyril and Methodius labored tirelessly to bring the word of God to life among the Slavic people through their preaching, teaching, translating, and liturgical work. Through their creative and courageous ministry, God filled that part of the earth with his love.

Ring out your joy to the Lord, O you just;

for praise is fitting for loyal hearts.

Give thanks to the Lord upon the lyre,

with a ten-stringed harp sing him songs.

O sing him a song that is new,

play loudly, with all your skill.

For the word of the Lord is faithful

and all his works to be trusted.

The Lord loves justice and right

and fills the earth with his love.

By his word the heavens were made,

by the breath of his mouth all the stars.

He collects the waves of the ocean;

he stores up the depths of the sea.

Let all the earth fear the Lord,

all who live in the world revere him.

He spoke; and it came to be.

He commanded; it sprang into being.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. Deuteronomy 31:12-13a

Assemble the people—men, women and children, as well as the aliens who live in your communities—that they may hear it and learn it, and so fear the Lord, your God, and carefully observe all the words of this law. Their children also, who do not know it yet, must hear it and learn it, that they too may fear the Lord, your God.

This gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the world as a witness to all nations. (Mt 24:14)

Canticle of Zechariah

Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. (Mk 16:15)

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet

of the Most High;

for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,

to give his people knowledge of salvation

by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,

to shine on those who dwell in darkness

and the shadow of death,

and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father…

Intercessions

The Lord is faithful to his promise of salvation. In hope we pray:

R/Fill the earth with your love.

For all those you have called to preach and teach your word:

– sustain them in courage and zeal. R/

For all those you have called to teach the illiterate to read:

– sustain them in patience and love. R/

For all those you have called to provide your Church with texts for prayer:

– sustain them in faith and humility. R/

For the Slavic peoples to whom you sent Saints Cyril and Methodius:

– sustain them in holiness, justice, and peace. R/

Personal intentions

Our Father….

O God of every nation, you sent Saints Cyril and Methodius to proclaim the Good News of salvation to the Slavic nations. Through their intercession, preserve in faith those whom they and their heirs have instructed, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for a greater love of God by Fr. Francis Xavier

Morning meditation to kindle your love for God

Prayer for the Evening (Sunday, February 13)

Prayer for the Evening

God is our life and our hope! Let us praise him.

Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!

Hymn

Ye choirs of New Jerusalem,

Your sweetest notes employ,

The paschal victory to hymn

In strains of holy joy.

For Judah’s Lion bursts his chains,

Crushing the serpent’s head;

And cries aloud through death’s domains

To wake th’imprisoned dead.

From hell’s devouring jaws the prey

Alone our Leader bore;

His ransomed hosts pursue their way

Where Jesus goes before.

Triumphant in his glory now

To him all power is given;

To him in one communion bow

All saints in earth and heaven.

Psalm 88:2-3, 12-15

Concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God, “I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob”? He is not the God of the dead but of the living. (Mt 22:31-32)

Saint Paul tells us in this morning’s reading that, “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain.” If we live only for the present time our faith is in vain. Let us live for heaven and for the resurrection. In this way we will have the joy of knowing God in this life and the next.

Lord my God, I call for help by day;

I cry at night before you.

Let my prayer come into your presence.

O turn your ear to my cry.

Will your love be told in the grave

or your faithfulness among the dead?

Will your wonders be known in the dark

or your justice in the land of oblivion?

As for me, Lord, I call to you for help:

in the morning my prayer comes before you.

Lord, why do you reject me?

Why do you hide your face?

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. 2 Maccabees 12:43-45

He then took up a collection among all his soldiers, amounting to two thousand silver drachmas, which he sent to Jerusalem to provide for an expiatory sacrifice. In doing this he acted in a very excellent and noble way, inasmuch as he had the resurrection of the dead in view; for if he were not expecting the fallen to rise again, it would have been useless and foolish to pray for them in death. But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought.

I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me,

even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and

believes in me will never die. (Jn 11:25-26)

Canticle of Mary

The Son of Man has risen from the dead. (cf. Mk 9:9)

The Lord has risen and given us eternal life. Let us pray to him:

R/Lead us to everlasting life!

When we feel lost and afraid,

– make us mindful of the future you hold out for us. R/

Through all the mundane activities of our day,

– open our hearts to know and do your will for us. R/

At the hour of our death,

– let us see you as you are, and rejoice in your love. R/

who have ever been mindful of the power of the Lord,

for whom you did not spare your life.

Salve Regina

Salve, Regina, mater misericordiae;

vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.

Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

Eia ergo, advocata nostra,

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,

our life, our sweetness, and our hope.

To you do we cry,

poor banished children of Eve.

To you do we send up our sighs,

mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn then, O most gracious advocate,

your eyes of mercy toward us,

and after this our exile

show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V/ Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

R/ That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

How To Prepare For The Holy Spirit To Come Into Your Life

The surest way to keep the devil ‘far’ from your life

Prayer for the Evening (Saturday, February 12)

Prayer for the Evening

Vigil of the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Lord is our source of joy. Let us praise him!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

Hymn

Light of the anxious heart,

Jesus, thou dost appear,

To bid the gloom of guilt depart,

And shed thy sweetness here.

Joyous is he, with whom,

God’s Word, thou dost abide;

Sweet Light of our eternal home,

To fleshly sense denied.

Brightness of God above!

Unfathomable grace!

Thy presence be a fount of love

Within thy chosen place.

Psalm 126

For I will refresh the weary soul; every soul that languishes I will replenish. (Jer 31:25)

God has the amazing ability to turn our most painful and tragic moments into opportunities for transformation and growth. If we take what God sends us in a spirit of joy and acceptance, even when we don’t feel joyful, we will grow closer and closer to God’s love. That is what living the beatitudes is all about.

When the Lord delivered Zion from bondage,

it seemed like a dream.

Then was our mouth filled with laughter,

on our lips there were songs.

The heathens themselves said: “What marvels

the Lord worked for them!”

What marvels the Lord worked for us!

Indeed we were glad.

Deliver us, O Lord, from our bondage

as streams in dry land.

Those who are sowing in tears

will sing when they reap.

They go out, they go out, full of tears,

carrying seed for the sowing:

they come back, they come back, full of song,

carrying their sheaves.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. Luke 6:21-23

Blessed are you who are now hungry,/ for you will be satisfied./ Blessed are you who are now weeping,/ for you will laugh./ Blessed are you when people hate you,/ and when they exclude and insult you,/ and denounce your name as evil/ on account of the Son of Man.

Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven.

They will not hunger or thirst anymore,/

nor will the sun or any heat strike them.

(Rv 7:16)

Prayer for the Evening (Friday, February 11)

Prayer for the Evening

Let us praise the Lord,

whose compassion is our comfort.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

Hymn

O rosy dawn! that dost proclaim

Salvation’s happy day,

To thee, O Virgin, ’mid night’s shades,

Thy people humbly pray.

The torrent, that engulfs all those

Within its whirlpool drawn,

Rests calm as o’er its softened wave

The ark of God is borne.

The serpent rears his head aloft

Disgorging poisoned spleen;

But thou his proud, inflated head

Dost crush with power as Queen.

O loving Mother, hear our prayer,

As suppliant we cry;

Protect us in our strife with hell

Who dost its power defy.

Psalm 30

I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you. (2 Kgs 20:5)

The Lord Jesus Christ, by the mystery of his cross, heals us of sickness and sorrow, if not in this world, then in the world to come. His Mother, her compassion made perfect by that same cross, intercedes for all who are joined to him by their suffering.

I will praise you, Lord, you have rescued me

and have not let my enemies rejoice over me.

O Lord, I cried to you for help

and you, my God, have healed me.

O Lord, you have raised my soul from the dead,

restored me to life from those who sink into the grave.

Sing psalms to the Lord, you who love him,

give thanks to his holy name.

His anger lasts a moment; his favor through life.

At night there are tears, but joy comes with dawn.

I said to myself in my good fortune:

“Nothing will ever disturb me.”

Your favor had set me on a mountain fastness,

then you hid your face and I was put to confusion.

To you, Lord, I cried,

to my God I made appeal:

“What profit would my death be, my going to

the grave?

Can dust give you praise or proclaim your truth?”

The Lord listened and had pity.

The Lord came to my help.

For me you have changed my mourning into dancing,

you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy.

So my soul sings psalms to you unceasingly.

O Lord my God, I will thank you for ever.

Glory to the Father….

Word of God. Isaiah 57:15b-c, 18

On high I dwell, and in holiness,/ and with the crushed and dejected in spirit,/ To revive the spirits of the dejected,/ to revive the hearts of the crushed./ I saw their ways,/ but I will heal them and lead them;/ I will give full comfort/ to them and to those who mourn for them.

I came so that they might have life

and have it more abundantly.
